@JonAshworth HS2 was/is a complete waste of money. Only a politician could think saving 20 mins to London from a station 30 mins away from where anyone lives, and probably £200 return when you can get to London quicker by car on £30 of diesel was going to change the fortunes on northerners

@henrywinter One rule for them, it’s an absolute disgrace, and you know City will be more of the same. Not fit to administrate, and you can’t call it out for what it is. Scandalous.

Good result for Chelsea: club fined only £10m and given a suspended transfer ban after Premier League found 36 separate undisclosed payments totalling £47.5m made “to 12 persons or entities on behalf of the club”. Lenient sanctions. No sporting sanctions. Yet these are serious offences, as the sanction agreement between the PL and Chelsea makes clear, stating “they were not only obvious and deliberate breaches of the rules but also because they involved deception and concealment in relation to financial matters”. Yet no points deductions. Just a manageable (if record) fine and a “suspended one-year first-team player transfer ban (suspended for two years)”. Surely they gained a sporting advantage by recruiting such players? So surely a sporting sanction should be in order? And where's the consistency? In 2008, Luton Town received a 10-point deduction for irregularities in dealing with agents (nb from FA). There still could be some further sanctions by the FA following its "ongoing investigation". PL points to mitigating factors: current owners Clearlake/Todd Boehly in May 2022 voluntarily self-reported potential historical breaches from the Roman Abramovich era. Club co-operated extensively and helped provide (with others) 10,000 documents for PL investigation. PL established “that between 2011 and 2018, undisclosed payments by third parties associated with the club were made to players, unregistered agents and other third parties”. Payments related to the purchases of players including Eden Hazard, Willian, Samuel Eto’o, David Luiz, Andre Schurrle and Nemanja Matic - there is no suggestion any were aware of the illicit payments. The detailed work of the investigators – and level of Clearlake’s co-operation – is impressive. The sanctions less so. It is a legitimate debate: should a club be punished for offences under a previous owner? Yes, most fans of other clubs would scream. It's a deterrent. And the value of those players' contribution and subsequent sales arguably still benefits the club. PL also investigated “potential breaches of the Premier League’s Youth Development Rules, committed by a former senior employee, relating to the club’s registration of Academy players between 2019 and 2022”. Again, self-reported by the club, this time in 2025. Chelsea punished with £750,000 fine and immediate nine-month ban from registering academy players from PL and EFL clubs. #CFC

@Ed_Miliband So my oil bill has doubled, but I get zero help? Oil’s just gone up by £1300 per tank, I get no dual fuel deal, electric had already gone up by £300 but you’re giving me £150 back and I’m supposed to be grateful? Got it. Thanks.

Fly-tipping is a serious offence, so we’re ensuring the punishment fits the crime. Under new proposals, repeat offenders could see points added to their driving licence, and risk losing it for good if they continue to break the law. See what else waste criminals should expect👇

@MartinSLewis I can fix commercial energy for 20 years at 18p per kWh and install free solar, batteries and inverters (and maintain it all). Solar as a Service. It will save businesses £m’s, but they are so turned off by nett zero, getting clients to see what’s in front of them is so hard!

Encouraging whistleblowers to come forward to @rapeganginquiry is not just about gathering evidence — it is about restoring integrity to a system that failed to listen when it mattered most. For too long, professionals, community members, and insiders who saw the warning signs felt silenced by fear: fear of losing their jobs, fear of being ostracised, fear of being labelled disloyal, racist, dramatic, or “difficult.” That culture of intimidation allowed abuse to flourish in the shadows. Breaking that silence is an act of courage — and an act of public service. Whistleblowers are not traitors. They are guardians of truth. Every email saved, every safeguarding concern logged, every meeting remembered, every decision questioned — these details matter. They create accountability. They expose patterns. They honour the experiences of victims who were ignored, dismissed, or blamed. When insiders speak honestly about what they witnessed — the missed opportunities, the institutional paralysis, the pressure to downplay — they help ensure that history cannot be rewritten. This inquiry must be a place where whistleblowers are protected, respected, and believed. Anonymity must be honoured where needed. Emotional support must be available if required. No one should risk their livelihood for telling the truth — and yet, many have. I would never ask anyone to do something that I wouldn't do myself........... As a whistleblower I have experienced the difficulties and risks that come with doing the right thing. Despite everything, I would do it again a million times over, as we all have a duty to protect our country's children by ensuring we have a system and work force in place which does just that......... @RupertLowe10 has shown commitment and dedication to the inquiry, now is the time............ To those who know something and have stayed silent: your voice could be the missing piece. Your testimony could prevent another child from being harmed. Silence protects systems. Speaking protects children. Courage is contagious. When one person stands up, others find the strength to follow. And when enough truth is spoken, the culture shifts — from denial to responsibility, from fear to transparency, from protection of reputation to protection of children. This inquiry is not about blame for the sake of blame. It is about learning, accountability, and systemic change. Whistleblowers are central to that change. If you witnessed wrongdoing, minimisation, or deliberate inaction, your evidence matters. The truth matters. And the children — past, present, and future — deserve nothing less. @RestoreBritain_ Please get in touch on submissions@therapeganginquiry.org 🙏❤️

Sources in Whitehall say it is “very likely” that HMS Duncan will shortly be deployed to the Eastern Mediterranean to provide protection for the RAF base in Cyprus. Yet to be confirmed on the record.  It’s a Type 45 destroyer, of which the Royal Navy has six. Three of which are in deep maintenance and couldn’t be deployed. Two would take some days to get ready. Only HMS Duncan is ready to go. Even so it will take at least a week to get there, which suggests a lack of forward planning at the MoD. Again  The destroyer is armed with anti-missile weapons. The UK currently has no ability to defend Cyprus against ballistic missile attacks.

@RobertJenrick Not sure about everyone else, but I/we are not £1000 per year better off, far from it. Conservatively, I’d say our weekly shop has doubled in 18 months (to £200/week), our council tax has gone up £1200 a year, our water bill is 35% higher. How she has the nerve to stand there..
