@AndyfromNewHamp Smart birds surfies get a few off uk coasts. They do feed collectively which is good to see them giving in waves. Common scoters we get are very similar to Blacks. Always been too far offshore to hear them call, so take your word for it

Black Scoters. These birds migrate down here to avoid the bitter winter in Labrador Island or on the West Coast from Alaska. They congregate in huge flocks, amazing watching them scope and hunt prey as a group. The haunting sound is so unique to them, the Maine coastline perfect.

Fabulous starling murmuration at Bagmere, nr Brereton, Cheshire this evening. Probably over 150k birds there. Most I’ve ever seen. Started at about 4:40 with a huge flock coming in from south west. Lasted a good half an hour until they went to into the roost.

Fun afternoon on the way back from some year-ticking in N Wales, watching the Short-eared Owls hunting over Neston Marsh. Finished January on 161...just one short of my previous best!

First decent bird of the year. Shorelark along Gritstone trail path at Mow Cop on Cheshire side if cheshire/staffs border. Good year tick as well as a Cheshire tick for me

In the Four Priests, Sandbach, owned by local brewery from Middlewich l. Their own brew Murgy Straight really good. Must have a hole in the bottom of the glass as it seems to be disappearing very quickly

2025 done and dusted hardly a classic year 3 ticks western sand, sibe thrush and rustic bunt but 3 lumps so net zero movement on the list. Good Shetland despite travel problems which included a Blackpoll warbler. Hopefully a more productive 2026

@bigal7712 Don’t know if you work in construction but you can only build, once you have got planning permission which takes years. The drop in new build starts is a direct result of Tory restrictive planning policies from their time in govrnmt too many vested interests in the Tory shires

Absolutely damning new housing stats out this morning. The number of net additional new dwellings during Labour's first year in office fell by 6% compared to the Tories. The number of new builds fell by 8,000. In total they oversaw just 190,000 new homes built in 24/25,
