A consortium led by U.S. businessman David Storch has completed a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday. Wednesday will start next season’s League One on zero points after the English Football League (EFL) removed the pre-existing 15-point penalty as a result of the club satisfying insolvency rules upon exiting administration, saying that the sporting punishment was no longer considered “appropriate”. Storch — who has spent his career in the aviation industry — will be joined by son, Michael, and Tom Costin in a deal led through investment firm Arise Capital Partners. It is hard to contemplate now, but Harry Winks was once considered a statement signing for Leicester City. It has been a dramatic fall from grace, for both the club and the player. The former England midfielder, rightly or wrongly, has become the poster boy for an underachieving squad destined for League One. For everyone’s sake, if he does feature against Blackburn Rovers on the final day of the Championship season, it should be his last appearance for the club. 📝 @RobTannerLCFC 🔗 nyti.ms/3RafHb0

When #LCFC recruited Harry Winks it was a statement signing. How has it all gone so terribly wrong? He hasn't been helped by City's scattergun recruitment of coaches, but he also hasn't helped himself. For @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/72401…

Oxford United's relegation to League One has been confirmed following Charlton's 2-1 win against Hull City. Gary Rowett has managed two of the clubs that have been relegated from the Championship this season (Oxford United August-December 2025, Leicester City February-April 2026).

Official attendance tonight 28,729 🤔 Something has to be done about this because these figures will be taken as given in the public record when they are, quite clearly, false.

For what it is worth, one observation about Souttar's performance tonight - he has been talking, pointing organising... leading. #LCFC haven't seen much of that from others this season.

In 2023, the Premier League and the EFL discussed what was dubbed a "new deal for football". Progress has been slow in ironing out the details of how the English top flight could change how it shares revenue with the divisions below it — and with the advent of the Independent Football Regulator, the clock is now ticking. @mjshrimper explains what both the Premier League and the EFL want, and what might happen next. 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/72058…

West Bromwich Albion have been docked two points for breaching the English Football League’s profitability and sustainability rules. The sanction sees them drop from 18th to 20th in the Championship, six points clear of relegation, with two games to play. More from @mjshrimper & @JessMCHopkins 🔗 nyti.ms/42rKDpH

An envoy to Donald Trump claims he has asked the U.S. president and FIFA, world soccer’s governing body, to replace Iran with Italy at this summer’s World Cup. Speaking to the Financial Times (FT) on Wednesday, U.S. special envoy Paolo Zampolli said four-time winners Italy “have the pedigree” to justify replacing Iran at the tournament, which gets underway in less than 50 days in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. According to the FT, citing people familiar with the matter, Zampolli’s plan is part of an effort to repair the relationship between Trump and Italy’s prime minister Giorgia Meloni after the two fell out over the U.S. president’s attacks against Pope Leo XIV over the Iran war — although Zampolli also admitted to a personal incentive to his request. 🔗 nyti.ms/4cszfjm

Ten years ago, Leicester fans gathered outside the King Power to celebrate their 5,000-1 Premier League title win. On Tuesday, they assembled again — but this time to vent their fury at the club’s owners and players after relegation to League One was confirmed. How did it come to this? @RobTannerLCFC reveals a story of tale of incompetence, dysfunction and decline. 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/72184…

#LCFC face a big challenge, not just to get the club back into the Championship, but to restore any confidence in those who are running the club.
