Great to see @FortuneMagazine's first crypto ranking go live. I spent the past few months devising the methodology and executing the research — a tough challenge but rewarding when it all came together. fortune.com/ranking/crypto/

@leomschwartz yes, basically. blockfi's fine was $100 million, eg, and regulators are slow to catch on. exchanges also tend to argue that cryptocurrencies are not securities and try to be at least somewhat careful about which ones they list (eg the crypto rating council).

@Rob_Stevens_ Presumably Kraken calculated that it would be more expective to go through the process and register than just end the (very lucrative) program, or maybe they were just worried about the liabilities associated

Here's maybe a stupid question: Why doesn't Kraken just register its staking product with the SEC? Would that just be prohibitively expensive?

The end of corporate journalism is now in sight. If you want a quick writeup, ChatGPT will do it faster. If you want original reporting, Twitter will do it cheaper. And if you want serious fact checking, on-chain analysis will do it better. Citizen journalism will win.

@Dave_Clare1 @JBSDC @CFTC probably because it undergirds so much of the market. it's also issued by a centralized organization, making it an obvious target for legal action if it falls foul of the regulations.

Mining bosses are panicking. After Bitcoin crashed and energy costs spiraled over the summer, mining firms that took out expensive short-term loans to buy hardware during the bull run now teeter on bankruptcy. trib.al/5ZaeXAZ

@JBSDC @CFTC agree, although the act defines commodities as anything (except onions and cinema ticket receipts!) "in which contracts for future delivery are presently or in the future dealt in." that's p much all crypto, no?
