The next time you think “I’m bored” or “I’m just killing time” remember this line from Warren Buffett, “No how much money you have, you can’t buy more time.” It’s the most valuable thing you have so don’t fill it with junk. #valuetime #staymotivated

Less harmful is not the same as harmless. New study shows compared to non-smokers, tobacco cigarettes increased the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by 704%, waterpipes by 218%, and e-cigarettes by 194% ow.ly/b8ml30qVCWY #makehealthychoices

@RobertEdutains @Bullsnark1 According to NYTS, 85% of the kids who have tried an e-cigarette did so infrequently, experimentally. Of those who vaped frequently in 2018, 94% were current or former smokers, so not new to nicotine. NONE should vape, ESPECIALLY bootleg THC (which half of frequent vapers do).

@ChaunceyGardner @Bullsnark1 NYTS also reported in 2019 5.4 million High school & Middle School students reported vaping. We also know every long-term user started off just experimenting and that 90% of smokers started when they were teens. This is why big tobacco now controls the vaping industry.

@ChaunceyGardner Do you think vaping is 100% safe and doesn’t have any possible short-term or long-term negative health effects? And that there is no possible evidence or research that suggests there are risks?

@RobertEdutains I agree no under-age person should vape. Adult smokers who switch to ecigs see dramatic health improvements in lung & cardiovascular function. I hear you suggesting the opposite may be true for teens. Possibly anecdotal, caused by current panic. But they shouldn't be vaping.

@Bullsnark1 @ChaunceyGardner Yes, and my focus is on the non-smokers. I speak to teens @ schools. I hear, “well its safer than smoking,” like they have to choose between the 2 :) So my focus is “Safer” doesn’t mean safe. There r risks & we don’t know the longterm effects. So if u don’t use, don’t start.

@ChaunceyGardner @RobertEdutains I think it is important to keep in mind that these people were smokers before they vaped. Their overall risk is much closer to non-smokers than it is to smoking. The benefits of moving away from combustible tobacco are clear, this is just one of the reasons. Body odor is another

@ChaunceyGardner So I want teens to know their are risks and a lot of unknowns. If u don’t do it, don’t start.

@RobertEdutains Then we agree. Best estimate is that e-cigarettes are "at least 95% safer than cigarettes." SMOKING shortens the lives of 1/2 of all lifelong smokers by 10 years. So switching from cigarette smoking to nicotine vaping is at least 20 times safer. Might save lives. No?

@ChaunceyGardner From conversations I’ve had w/ pulmonary Doctors w/ teens patients who never smoked, just vaped nicotine (not THC) they are amazed on how fast the respiratory issues came on, and are afraid of the with unknown long-term effects.

@ChaunceyGardner If people switch as a stepping stone to quit all together. Awesome! But not sure if it’s a good long-term solution.

@ChaunceyGardner Didn’t say I agree. Just said I wasn’t arguing that. There’s not enough research on the long term effects of inhailing the oils, flavor additives, etc. to say how much safer. Also, if there is damage is it reversible? We also don’t have to choose between the 2.

@ChaunceyGardner Thank u for catching that. Yes 30% increased risk. I’m not arguing whether or not smoking is more harmful. Just pointing out vaping has health risks.

@RobertEdutains No. It did not. The study found 30% higher RISK. So if your risk was 1 in 10,000, it would now be 1.3 in 10,000. That's not 30% of 10,000. The study also found that smoking was FIVE TIMES higher risk than e-cigarettes. So let's get some perspective.

The average age a child gets their 1st smartphone is now 10. CRAZY. Instead start them off with a pay for minutes phone, have them pay for their own minutes, so they can prove that they are responsible enough for a smart phone. ow.ly/Cqbc30q2mUn #cybersafety #parenttip
