Americans are defaulting on their student loan debt at a record pace: Delinquent federal student loan debt jumped +$12.2 billion in Q1 2026, to $171.4 billion, an all-time high. This has officially surpassed the $166.8 billion peak recorded in Q4 2019. At the same time, the proportion of seriously delinquent loans rose +0.7 percentage points, to 10.3%, the highest since Q1 2020. This comes as 2.6 million borrowers defaulted in Q1 2026, followed by ~1.0 million in Q4 2025. The average borrower entering default is now nearly 40 years old, up from 36.4 before the 2020 pandemic. The US student loan crisis is intensifying.

🚨 Axios just published classified intelligence that the Trump administration says shows Cuba is planning drone attacks on Guantanamo Bay, US warships, and Key West. I'm calling FALSE FLAG. The source is one anonymous senior US official. Reuters could not independently verify the report. Axios’s own framing — in the article itself — states: “The intelligence could become a pretext for U.S. military action.” This is the second time this year a US administration has had classified intelligence leaked about a Caribbean adversary “planning attacks” on US targets during a period of US military buildup in the region.

That is the cowards lesson. The real lesson is that if you take a stand for something you know to be right and just you should keep fighting, not retreat. You need to go down brawling for what’s right. You lose your senate seat either way, but you keep your integrity.

If there is ever evidence on a large grid (e.g., the 4th-largest economy in the world) that deploy, deploy, deploy a mix of clean, renewable energy and storage techs (wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, batteries) as fast as possible is the answer to eliminating fossil fuels while providing grid stability, this is it.

New wind record 8.29 GW at 1:40 AM on May 15, 2026 due to the SunZia line from New Mexico (now part of CAISO grid). Wind output record has increased by 1.64 GW since March 25, 2026. 77.7% of demand on May 15, 2026 met by WWS generators + another 8.77 GW from batteries for a total of 86.5% met by in-state WWS. 45th straight and 111 of 135 (82.2%) days in 2026 with WWS > 100% of demand for part of day. Gas down 61%, solar up 61%, batteries up 328% in '26 v '23.

Doing this on the heels of Trump literally forming a slush fund to pay out the Jan 6 insurrectionists feels like a country deciding lying about an election and working to overturn the results is no big deal.

BREAKING: Iran says it has prepared a "professional mechanism" to manage traffic and impose fees in the Strait of Hormuz and it will be "unveiled soon." Details include: 1. Iran says this system is "within the framework of its national sovereignty" 2. Under the new system, vessels will be directed along a designated route 3. Iran says "only commercial vessels and parties cooperating with Iran will benefit from it" 4. There will be fees imposed for vessels who wish to transit safely 5. The Strait of Hormuz will "remain closed to the operators of Project Freedom" Iran appears to be proceeding with their Hormuz toll system.

Autozone informing managers that there are challenges on select motor oils and lubes- specifically that flow through the Strait. While not all types of oil are impacted, price adjustments are coming for most products & some oils may see availability challenges. @CostaKapo
