Happy 250th birthday, USA! 🇺🇸 Here in Colorado, we’re like the kid with a birthday on Christmas Day: yes, it’s America’s big year — but it’s our birthday year too! Don’t forget us! Colorado turns 150 this year. We’re called the Centennial State because we became a state in 1876, exactly 100 years after the birth of the United States, so our birthdays have always been linked. Fortunately we have our own day to celebrate our 150th—August 1st—which is “Colorado Day.” Happy 250th to the United States, and happy 150th to Colorado! 🎂🏔️

Today, I proclaimed June 21-27th as Colorado Railroad Heritage Week. Railroads played a key role in Colorado’s history, and today we are focused on expanding passenger rail to better connect our communities and grow our economy, ensuring railroads play an incredibly important role in our future. I was honored to recognize that history at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden.

I’ve known Lynn for over a quarter of a century, and am deeply saddened to hear of her passing today. Today Colorado lost a dedicated journalist and public servant in @lynn_bartels. Lynn was an institution in Colorado politics, and committed her life to serving her fellow Coloradans, whether as a journalist for the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post, working in the Secretary of State’s Office under Wayne Williams, or serving as an aide to Senator Barb Kirkmeyer in the legislature. Lynn’s infectious personality and ongoing quest for selfies made her someone that everyone wanted to know, and her sharp wit kept readers coming back for more. I know that her passing will impact so many across Colorado, but we’ve all learned something from Lynn that we can carry forward in our lives. My thoughts are with her family during this time. The State of Colorado is mourning this tremendous loss alongside everyone who was impacted by Lynn.

This week I signed a bipartisan bill to cut unnecessary red tape by exempting Pilates and Barre instruction schools from state oversight, aligning them with yoga schools. Colorado is committed to effective, efficient government that protects consumers while making it easier for people and small businesses to pursue their passions.

This year, as we celebrate America 250 and Colorado 150, we’re also recognizing 50 years since river otters were successfully reintroduced to our state, a great Colorado conservation success story. Thanks to Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s work, these playful and important animals are back in our rivers, helping keep our ecosystems healthy for future generations.
