The Somerset Patriots scored 13 runs tonight and Anthony Volpe didn’t get a single hit. He currently has a .646 OPS in the minor league this year. There’s no way in hell he’s coming anywhere near the Bronx soon.

@BrandonTierney Grish regressing to his mean. NYY don’t know how to manage the lead off slot. They tried Wells there to start 2025. Look it up.

69/89 of Grisham's AB's have been from leadoff slot. He's hitting .130 with a .529 OPS there. Lots to like about the Yanks--but this MUST change. Drives me absolutely NUTS!!! Enough!

The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora, hitting coach Peter Fatse, bench coach Rámon Vazquez and game-planning coach Jason Varitek, sources tell ESPN. While the Red Sox won today, they are 10-17 and in last in the American League East. Massive change is coming in Boston.

@pinstripesnat My thought for years was that they should have mixed this one in as the road grays as it’s part of their history and legacy.

The Red Sox replaced Alex Bregman with Caleb Durbin. Ownership allowed the most important player in last year’s clubhouse to just walk to Wrigley. Is there a worse starting 3B in MLB than Durbin? I don’t think so. .147 BA, 0 HR, 7RBI .451 OPS

@HallHoopsHQ @NJHoopsHaven @AsburyParkPress Playing by the no rules rules. Should eliminate agents and street agents. The back channeling has to be insane. So many ways to attack this from the ncaa but there is no leadership willing to lead. SHU is a symptom of the bigger problem nobody willing to address

It's tough enough that Seton Hall couldn't keep Najai Hines. Now the Pirates have to face the budding superstar center twice next season at UConn, and who knows how many more times beyond that. The days of Angel Delgado are long gone. app.com/story/sports/c… via @asburyparkpress

@BryanHoch It’s early. It’s cold. It’s a 162 season. We believe in these guys and their baseball cards. We led the league in runs last year. Our analytics show (insert some useless metric here) we are where we need to be. We have a championship caliber team. Cue it

Ben Rice & Giancarlo Stanton are the only Yankees regulars hitting over .225. Rice + Stanton: .333, 5 HR, 19 RBIs, 199 wRC+ Everyone else: .167, 7 HR, 32 RBIs, 68 wRC+

@williamnyy23 Offense is hoping for breakouts and career years, & too Judge reliant as you point out. If he hits 285/40/105 the team doesn’t contend and those are tremendous #s. BP not good. Had chances to make moves and didn’t. Deserve whatever fate they receive

"It's early" isn't an excuse the "run it back Yankees" can use because we are now 180 games into the experiment and the exact same problems that have existed throughout haven't magically resolved themselves. Meanwhile, just to maintain the status quo on offense, the Yankees are making the following assumptions: 1. Judge will be Babe Ruth again (and not, say, merely Shohei Ohtani). 2. Stanton won't get an ill-time injury. 3. Rice will maintain his breakout. 4. Jazz, a ~2-win player with league average offense before 2025, will again be a ~4-win, 125 OPS+ performer. 5. Grisham, a ~2-win player with below average offense before 2025, will again be a ~4-win, 125 OPS+ performer. 6. Bellinger will have another 5-win season as he did in 2023 and 2025, and not perform at the ~1-2 level he did in 2020-22, 24. To offset potential slippage from any of the six above, the Yankees would need: 1) McMahon and Caballero, who are below league average offensive players, to somehow figure out how to hit at age 30. 2) Wells to be better than the firm league average baseline he has established in 1000 PAs. 3) Volpe to return from injury and finally breakout after three seasons with an OPS+ in the 80s. Now, if the Yankees had built a super pitching staff by signing Diaz, trading for Skubal, etc., you could understand letting the same offense ride again in 2026, but that's not the case. On the pitching side, the Yankees are banking on: 1) Schlittler being an ace in his rookie season under a full season load. 2) Cole and Rodon recovering from injury. 3) A bullpen of reclamation projects that, aside from Bednar's ERA+ of 130, is collectively league average, and that's being charitable. Maybe running it back will work, and all of the risky assumptions will fall into place, but the fact that the Yankees are a solid 8-5 and only 13 games have passed doesn't matter as much as the fact the team has given no reason to expect that running it back won't end in the exact same result.
