@zannymb @elonmusk I will not be tuning in. Your cutesy "non -accusation" accusations were deplorable and an example of the sort of media chicanery that needs to be boycotted until the institutions that engage in it go bankrupt or fire the editors responsible. Your parents should be appalled.

I sat down with @ElonMusk for The Insider this week. We discussed the future of AI—but also his foray into politics and his attitude towards Europe. Our exchange was extended and at times heated. Tune in on Thursday at 6pm London time (1pm New York): bit.ly/4fsnd9Q
The Economist@TheEconomist

“There really won't be anything that AI can’t do better than humans, apart from being human, perhaps,” says @elonmusk. He tells @zannymb that artificial intelligence may exceed the sum of human intelligence in about five years. Tune in to The Insider from 6pm London time: bit.ly/4vQxWB7

Since 1978, China has planted more than 66 billion trees in an effort to slow the expansion of two major deserts, making it the country with the largest tree-planting effort in history. China has carried out the world’s largest afforestation program, planting tens of billions of trees to combat desertification and restore damaged ecosystems. After decades of deforestation, overgrazing, and expanding deserts, China launched the Three North Shelterbelt Program in 1978 to slow the growth of the Gobi Desert and protect farmland and cities from dust storms. The effort later expanded to areas surrounding the Taklamakan Desert, where trees were planted along highways, rivers, and desert borders to stabilize shifting sands. These programs helped increase China’s forest coverage from around 12% in the early 1980s to more than 24% today, with NASA satellite data showing China contributed about 25% of the world’s increase in leaf area between 2000 and 2017.

@wholemars How would you feel about 5,480 unsupervised robotaxis this time next year. I admit I would be disappointed. If they continue to grow at this trajectory that is where they would be.

Specifically, we believe the rollout of 2026.20.200.1 was not intentional, given that drivers are being reverted from Full Self-Driving V14.3.4 back to V14.2.2.5. From all appearances, this appears to be an erroneous rollout and that it WAS meant to be a factory build.

What possessed all these internet advertisers to start with "We Lied" before going on to make a bunch of claims about their product? Well sorry, Dave, I may forgive you since you're apologizing, but I'm not going to forget that you tell lies about your product.

@wholemars I admit to being happy to buy at that price. I can only hope it was from shortsellers and not investors who lost heart.

@Boldiful @farzyness Most investors bought for the long term (>5 years). The day to day movement of the price doesn't really matter except when the drop is enough that they have an opportunity to buy more at a discount especially if their strategy was to buy in tranches. Most investors r celebrating

A Japanese company hired 11 full-time office cats to reduce workplace stress, and it’s working. Tokyo-based Qnote Inc. first adopted a cat in 2004 and has since grown its feline staff to 11 permanent office residents. Employees say the cats boost morale, encourage short breaks, and create a much more relaxed and pleasant work environment. Each cat even has an official job title, such as “office clerk,” “manager,” or “auditor”, making them fully integrated into the company culture. The company loves cats so much that “cat lover” is now listed as a requirement for human job applicants. To accommodate its furry employees, Qnote renovated the office with 12 cat toilets, climbing shelves, and scratch-resistant walls, allowing the cats to roam freely without causing damage. The result? Lower stress levels and stronger team bonding among staff. A purr-fect workplace solution.
