@WolfOfClapham I might be wrong but I believe there is a way to search LinkedIn by people who have have a similar education. Search and or contact a bunch of them to get an understanding of different career paths. Keep trying!

@CitizenNill What about employment rates? Showing the minimum age is useful but if the majority of petty criminals are unlikely to become employed than the minimum wage is irrelevant

@probablycenter @DanMulroyjr You can teach/learn about statistical challenges and not become good at statistics. It is much easier to learn statistical concepts and how to interpret them, including assessing p-hacking, pseudoreplication etc, than become great at doing statistical analysis

@DanMulroyjr w/o grasping external issues like publication bias or funding sources and how the method, collection, control of underlying data can influence it's causality people will see statistics they understand, but not whether its quality or not. College graduates struggle at this.

Why is calculus the default higher level math in high school and not statistics? Is there a reason I don’t know about? I feel like society would be way better off if they understood the basics of statistics. I’m honestly curious.

@probablycenter @DanMulroyjr Not true in the sense that a majority or all sciences senior researchers (incl many respected professors) are guilty of not understanding or not caring about statistics and associated methodology. Hence the unaddressed replication ‘crisis’

Hi @vfsglobalcare @VFSGlobal, I'm trying to renew a dutch passport, but I can't log in to the account. No matter how many times I've tried to register and reset password. Furthermore, I have emailed all centres several times with 0 replies in the last 2 weeks. No contact number!

@RejaulAmin @hayatidunyati @vfsglobalcare @VFSGlobal Yes, eventually. The worst application/appointment system I’ve ever encounter. Nothing comes close it’s so bad. But I didn’t get an appointment confirmation so I don’t know now and nobody responds to emails/DMs

@Churchill5cigar @LessWasteLaura Australia has a total e-cigarette ban, except for prescription. Extremely poor enforcement. This proposal is a ban on disposables. It is not the same

@LessWasteLaura As much as I agree about the litter etc. I am willing to guarantee some kids will either get seriously ill or worse as they will end up getting black market vapes with all kinds of horrible chemicals in them

@JesseBrown The monopoly was already there and the question is what would increased completion have done anyway? I’m not convinced it would be better than the benefit of putting tobacco behind screens!

It's made it virtually impossible for anyone to launch a new cigarette company. So the incumbents were handed a monopoly on cigarette addicts by the government. 6/x

Max Krangle spent 12 years working as a lawyer for Big Tobacco companies, including RJ Reynolds. He gave me a fascinating interview in which he shared some insights about smoking that were new to me. For example...🧵

@JesseBrown What about increase social care cost, reduced productivity through increase illness, family and friends not working looking after Ill smoker, environmental destruction and clean up of cigarette, fires caused by smoking. The cost definitely outweighs the net benefit to the economy

That's true, but Krangle points out the grim fact that they die an average of 11 years earlier than other people, and those last years are when seniors draw the most money out of public coffers. So are smoker deaths revenue neutral for the syste? Or maybe even profitable? 9/x

@joekevill33 @eemmanuels4 @Morbidful I think that’s the issue. It’s theoretically possible but practically not. Cost of the dye or if the dye is not reversible the whole pool needs draining, or it’s not specific enough reacting to other biological compounds etc. In any case, thanks for asking!

@RobertTempelaar @eemmanuels4 @Morbidful I’ve just mailed the life guard at the pool. I was right that blue stuff is real. Apparently it was just a tester before it got rolled out. But apparently it was taken off the market for not being effective enough.

In 1989, in the small village of Miyakoji, Japan, primary school teacher Yumi Tanaka made a peculiar discovery as she looked into the toilet bowl – a floating black shoe. Investigating further, she found a man's body in the sewer tank outside. The body was removed and found to be in an unusual position, somehow the man managed to squeeze through the 14" diameter septic opening. It was later determined that he had entered the waste tank, likely attempting to peer up the toilet when women were using it. After meticulous cleaning, the body was identified as 26-year-old Naoyuki Kanno. He likely passed away from hypothermia.

@RobertTempelaar @eemmanuels4 @Morbidful Shit I’ve gotta be honest I’ve just looked it up online an I think I’m wrong. I’m gonna have to go to my local pool an ask the guard there if they have ever used it. But I swear I seen it with my own eyes when I was a kid. Now I can’t find no info online. Mandela effect?
