Good to chair today's Hinckley and Bosworth Fairtrade Forum meeting. Thanks to @RobinHanford for hosting us again at the Unitarian Chapel. Always encouraging to see local people committed to making global trade fairer for producers and communities. 🌎 #Fairtrade #Hinckley

Father Pierre Rahi of the Maronite Church was killed by an Israeli strike in Q’alayaa, south Lebanon after refusing to leave his parishioners there. Obv unaffiliated with Hezbollah. He joins a growing list of civilians, children and first responders killed by Israel in Lebanon.

What's a theological opinion that will have you like this?

Our churches should be given protected status so they are not routinely converted into mosques. They are part of Britain’s Christian heritage and identity. Once a church is gone, it’s rarely restored. Preserving faith buildings matters if we value our history. 🇬🇧

Keir Starmer has finally given the US permission to use British bases to destroy Iranian missiles. Better late than never. The Prime Minister is a follower, not a leader.

Rupert I agree with you on the army. It's been hollowed out and needs rebuilding urgently. That part is facts. You've talked about Iran and foreign intervention like it's somebody else's problem. I'd ask you to think about that again. Because we're not talking about a faraway conflict that has nothing to do with Britain. We're talking about a regime that is already operating inside this country. The IRGC has been caught running networks through British mosques, charities and universities. 20 Iranian backed plots have been foiled on British soil since 2022 alone. One of their hired thugs stabbed a journalist outside his London home in 2024. They ran fake social media accounts deliberately designed to divide and destabilise the United Kingdom. Policy Exchange called Iran a direct threat to British social cohesion. Not my words. Theirs. And beyond our borders they fund Hamas, they fund Hezbollah, they arm the Houthis who attacked our shipping and pushed costs up for every family in Britain. Nobody is talking about sending troops in. Not one person is asking for that. But proscribing the IRGC, shutting down their networks here, standing loudly with the Iranian people who are being massacred in the streets right now, that costs us nothing militarily. You didn't mention any of that Rupert. And that's the bit that concerns me. This isn't about intervention. It's about awareness. And the threat is already inside our borders.

The Prime Minister needs to change his mind on the use of our military bases and back the Americans in this vital fight against Iran!
