No recovery. In the UK, they literally ask drivers to count splats on their license plates after a trip. The 2024 count came back 63% lower than just 2021. Three years. A 2020 study pulled together 166 surveys from 1,676 locations around the world. Land insects are disappearing at roughly 9% every ten years. Here’s where it hits your plate. About 75% of the food crops we grow depend on insects to pollinate them, everything from apples to almonds to coffee. One 2025 study modeled what a full pollinator collapse would look like: food prices jump 30%, the global economy takes a $729 billion hit, and the world loses 8% of its Vitamin A supply. Birds are already feeling it. North America has lost 2.9 billion birds since 1970. A study from just weeks ago found half of 261 bird species on the continent are now in serious decline, and the losses are speeding up in farming regions. The birds that eat insects lost 2.9 billion. HateAid – jene NGO, die gegen digitale Gewalt kämpft und sich aus staatlichen Töpfen alimentiert. Die Protagonistin ist nicht zufällig im Fokus. Sie ist die perfekte Klientel: bekannt, vernetzt, politisch nutzbar – und vor allem: Teil jener Szene, die den öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunk seit Jahren als verlängerte Werkbank nutzt. Der Mechanismus ist simpel! Wer im Netzwerk der staatlich alimentierten Zivilgesellschaft verankert ist, bekommt maximale mediale Plattform. Wer dort nicht verankert ist, bleibt unsichtbar. Der Fall liefert die moralische Überhöhung, die Gesetzesänderung, die Empörungskaskade – und die Öffentlich-Rechtlichen spielen mit, weil es ihre eigene Welt ist, die hier beschützt wird. Das nennt man Systemerhalt. In der Demokratietheorie nennt man es: strukturelle Selbstbedienung. Die unbeantwortete Frage bleibt…. Wo war diese Empörung, als es um echte Opfer ging? Wo war die Tagesschau, als die 13-jährige Leonie in Wien missbraucht und getötet wurde? Wo war sie, als in Rotherham über Jahre tausende Mädchen systematisch vergewaltigt wurden und die Behörden wegschauten? Wo war sie, als in Neukölln eine 17-Jährige gruppenvergewaltigt und erpresst wurde – und das Jugendamt vertuschte? Wo ist sie jeden verdammten Tag, wenn Mädchen gedemütigt, gequält und gemobbt werden, weil sie Deutsche sind? Wenn Kinder und Jugendliche leiden, die keine Stimme haben, keine Promi-Anwälte, keine Talkshow-Einladungen? Die Antwort ist nicht Komplexität. Die Antwort ist System. Die Mädchen von Rotherham hatten keinen Zugang zu Correctiv. Die ermordete Leonie hatte keinen HateAid-Anwalt. Die Neuköllner Gruppe hatte keinen Promi-Status. Sie passten nicht ins Raster. Sie lieferten keine guten Bilder, keine politische Verwertbarkeit, keine Gesetzesänderung, die sich im Feuilleton feiern lässt. Collien Fernandes hat eine Stimme, weil sie Teil jener Seilschaft ist, die bestimmt, welche Stimme gehört wird. Die Mädchen von Rotherham haben keine Stimme, weil sie nie Teil dieser Seilschaft waren. Das ist kein Einzelfall. Das ist das Prinzip: Öffentlich-rechtliche Empörung folgt nicht dem Leid, sondern der politischen Verwertbarkeit. Man muss nicht rechts sein, um das zu sehen. Man muss nur die Augen aufmachen. Aber beim öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunk ist Augenaufmachen bekanntlich nicht vorgesehen – dafür gibt es ja die Gebühren. In der Wissenschaft nennt man das: strukturelle Blindheit bei gleichzeitiger operativer Selektivität. Im Feuilleton nennt man das: Claudia Roth weint.
