Also striking, from outside, is Birmingham’s complete absence from any sort of national cultural relevance: no literature to speak of, no notable music for half a century. Edinburgh, or Liverpool, or Bristol or Belfast or Newcastle or Glasgow all have specific cultural resonances, but the second city may as well not exist.

Yesterday, Youtube's animated logo (aka "Yoodle") celebrated indie animation. This little animation was made by @Worthikids. And it redirected to a playlist, different for each country, and with different animations (see links in comments).

Every part of the internet feels crap now compared to even 10 years ago. Maybe it's just rose-tinted nostalgia.. but eBay, Etsy, all social platforms, fun design stuff, journalism etc is all worse. Did a bubble burst and everyone gave up? Did we all get old and fed up?
