In the study “Cannabis as a substitute for alcohol and other drugs” (2009), medical cannabis patients reported using cannabis in place of alcohol, with common reasons including fewer adverse effects, better symptom control, and less withdrawal burden. Cannabinoids may offer a softer route for some, especially when stress, anxiety, and emotional discomfort are driving relapse behavior.
