@mfalsafa_ We’re throwing something on the grill tonight.
When in doubt call a Romanian.

@RobyPoto Barcola has Sissoko as his agent so forget getting him.

With a defensive midfielder there won’t be a double-pivot, I envision Amadou Onana there where all 3/4 players (Amadou, Gavi, Frenkie, Pedri) are all comfortable in all phases (even Amadou has box-crashing instincts), the dynamism is lovely, with Bernal, he’s 18 playing in an old-men’s position already being ACL’d, let the boy be and play without pressure and develop at his rate (midfielder hit peak later)
The drop-offs would be, but domestically you can afford that drop-off and when they’re available you play them even more if they throw tantrums.
And let’s be real, who even are the solutions for left-winger.
English

I don’t disagree with your point about the utility of a proper defensive midfielder, but if we’re talking priorities, the drop off between Raphinha and Lamine + whoever their alts are (which isn’t even clear right now), would be more significant to me than any DM we could realistically sign.
I also look at dynamics. How do you manage Pedri, Gavi, FDJ and Bernal, plus the addition of another midfielder? Especially in a double pivot.
English

@nanbasenfc It is, but at the same time how many times were all 3 of them available at the same time 100% fit?
A new DM helps you have those 3 in perfect shape + helps you in European nights.
WZE is that profile.

A good core and spine bring balance to this team and helps you have oxygen and stability with ‘poor’ personnel on the wings.
In Flick’s continuum of play (we’re not talking about defence and attack anymore, it’s one continuum) a defensive-midfielder bring stability and order in chaos and also helps winger feel relived in trying things and going in attack.
The 1v1 threat on the left is also secured by Balde and Joao Cancelo and with Bastoni who can cover large spaces and has a bigger radius as a LCB you can afford having your LB be your left-flank-width holder with Raphinha tucked in and your midfielders safe with the DM.
English

I hear you, but I do think a fully fit Gavi could compensate. Maybe even something closer to a more typical 4-3-3 for certain occasions.
Do agree that our OOP has looked distinctly shaky in Europe, but simultaneously, the flanks have looked pretty bleak in Raphinha’s absence.
As things stand, I think we’re one injury to Lamine or Raphinha away from a massive drop. At all times, that is. And it makes me very uneasy.
English

@IvarTalksBarca He’s 18 playing an old-men’s position already being ACL’d.
Let him be and play here and there with no pressure.
English

@IvarTalksBarca Amadou Onana.
Pedri-Amadou Onana - Gavi/Frenkie
We’ll never see them all 4 fit at the same time anyways.
English

@TotalLeoFCB @nanbasenfc No, still has instincts of going forward and when paired with a #10 that’s a 4th attacker imbalance happens.
