@RTRWLT @thomast1908 Well, actually, there are more direct ways to get order but universities don’t want to go that route. This route just pushes more issues before courts. Not the smartest way to run a business.

@RodGilmore @thomast1908 Well if they break a contract they alienated themselves. Welcome to adulting. If every school holds them accountable, there’s nothing the players can say.

@thomast1908 @RTRWLT It’s a different animal in recruiting world. It might alienate players, their families and agents. It also acknowledges that it is no longer a student-university relationship as the universities want (i.e., now employee-employer). risky. Could win this battle and lose the war.

Rod, you've signed many performance contracts I'm sure. If you quit mid season and paid for entire season does espn just say ok Rod thanks for quitting mid year here's your check in full!! Unlikely. This will set a standard across the country though surely other schools prob doing same just keeping it quiet.

@thomast1908 @RTRWLT Not gonna play well with players or their families. And other programs will use it against Oregon. But appreciate your opinion.

@RodGilmore @RTRWLT I think it plays fine. These young men understand commitment and when $ involved they need to complete the contract they signed. Gets them ready for the next journey!! Young man has a obligation and he will pay it one way or another

Only in America can one party control the White House, the Senate, the House of Representatives, win the popular vote, and hold the majority of governorships—and still blame the other party for everything wrong with the country.

The pattern is unmistakable and repulsive. If you keep calling Black leaders "low IQ," you aren't expressing a political disagreement. You are using a racist dog whistle to undermine their humanity. Every single time Donald Trump uses this slur, he shows the country that his politics are built entirely on grievance and bigotry. It’s a disgrace to the office and a stain on this country.

Good for Kalen DeBoer! That’s market forces at work. He’s getting $12.5 million per year because Alabama believes that’s his worth. The school is the arbiter of fair market value and there’s no third party that can reject the deal. Yet, athletes must submit deals to a College Sports Commission so that it, which has no basis for making “fair market value” determinations, can unilaterally and arbitrarily decide whether deals are accepted or rejected. It’s such a perverse system.

Alabama has reached a new seven-year contract with football coach Kalen DeBoer that will pay him $12.5 million per season, the university announced Wednesday. spr.ly/6011BBD2EN

My time @espn will be coming to an end later this year. After almost 24 years, I can boil my experience here down to one word - gratitude. Where else could I pitch the idea for Jimmy V Week, and have it turn into an annual initiative that's raised over $100M for cancer research? Where else would I get the chance to lead multi-billion dollar rights negotiations for myriad college conferences, NCAA Championships, the College Football Playoff, the NHL, and the chance to run the SEC Network and ACC Network, along with so much more? Where else would I be entrusted with the keys to program all of our networks, including ABC, getting to touch every property and program we air? Where else would I get the chance to work with the most talented, passionate, and committed colleagues, across both ESPN and The Walt Disney Company? If you had told me in 2002 that I'd get to do all that, I'd sign up over and over again. A huge thank you to everyone I've ever worked with, whether inside the company or across the industry. Looking ahead, I'm excited to be part of a team that can use an executive with strong business fundamentals, a sports fan's passion and instincts, and who embraces innovation, rewards creativity and spirited discussions, and treasures teamwork. Please feel free to reach out - I can't wait for what's next.
