Catholicism hypocritically condemns Christians for Sola Scriptura while they practice Sola Ecclesia. Roman Catholicism believes that the infallible authority of Scripture must have an external authentication. They claim that Scripture cannot stand on its own authority, yet assumes their Church can. Apparently the Catholic church establishes its own infallible authority. They teach Scripture must be authenticated and interpreted by their Church, while their Church gets to authenticate itself. In practice, this is sola ecclesia. If Scripture requires the Roman Catholic churches “infallible” authority to authenticate it then you cannot use Scripture to establish the authority of the Roman Church. It's circular reasoning. If the Roman Catholic Church can authenticate itself as an infallible authority, then the Scripture can authenticate itself as an infallible authority!
Bishop@BishopJaxi

Sola Scriptura is functionally "Scripture according to my interpretation," backed by whatever men agree with me. It is the exaltation of private judgment over the Bible, reinforced by other men who share that same judgment. Every time a Protestant declares something to be "biblical," he is either appealing to his own interpretation of the text or to heretics like John MacArthur to validate that interpretation.

I came across a movie called “Catholics” starring Martin Sheen. It’s about the struggle of a group of Irish monks who refused to go along with the modernist take over of V2. Has anyone else heard of this movie ?

@SEllisM @Truth_matters20 Im basing this on actual history. Catholicism is there at the beginning. You are using your own bias to formulate a 6th C almost 7th C Church. Defies history. Read Clement, Ireneus, Polycarp, Justyn Martyr, Augustine etc. any of those and you can easily see their Catholicity.

I am a very serious individual, just too smart to believe anything because it came from some institution. The New Testament was settled long before the Roman Catholic church came to be, long before Nicea. It was canonized by the church at large around 250 AD, not by some formal conclave, but by the church using those particular books, and rejecting others as of no value. All Nicea did was, while arguing over what to do about Arianism, because that is why they were called together, they accepted what was already done. That is the facts, not the fables you were taught.

@SEllisM @Truth_matters20 The Old Testament canon was not “largely” settled by the time of Jesus. This is even attested in the NT. The only Church in the 4th C operating was…the Catholic one. Thanks for proving my point. All of those “sects” had not yet broken off because they were in union with Rome

Just stop, you are embarrassing yourself. I am not denying history at all, the Catholics just claim a lot more credit than they are due. You ought to look up the actual history instead of just listening to the dogma you have been fed. And I am not foisting a falsehood in the least, though I suppose as a Catholic, whose entire history has been filled with foisting falsehoods, you would be far more familiar with that than I am. The Old Testament canon was largely settled by the time Jesus walked the earth, not even in dispute, and the New Testament canon was decided by the 4th century, and while some Catholics were involved it certainly wasn't all, or even most, they just took credit and claimed people as their own who were not Roman Catholics. All of the New Testament was written by 95 AD, the Muratorium List was in 170 AD, which is basically what started canonization, and was long before the Catholic churches actual founding, 367 Athanasius named 27 books. And while the Catholic church claims him, he didn't exactly claim them, he is venerated and claimed by several early sects, such as the Greek Orthodox church. Then the Nicea Council, which consisted of multiple sects, chose those books to be canonized. That is reality, and that is actual history.

@SEllisM @Truth_matters20 You are now denying history and the very Church Fathers you denigrated. And you are foisting a falsehood regarding the vulgarization of the Bible. The only thing you are proven is you are intellectual lightweight.

The Catholic church didn't give us the canon. And they certainly have not safeguarded scripture for 2000 years, mostly they banned people from reading it at all right up to almost modern times. It took a Protestant King to get the Bible to the people. For someone who is so certain of the falsehoods you have been taught you prove again and again how ignorant you actually are.

@SEllisM @Truth_matters20 The Catholic Church has safeguarded scripture for 2000 years. Christ is the head of the church. For someone with so many books you sure sound ignorant. The Church gave you the canon. You should be grateful.

I am not in rebellion, if anything the Catholic church is in rebellion against the teachings of scripture. Frankly any church that would place someone like your Pope as the head of their church has serious issues. I was always skeptical of St. Malachy and his prophecies, but watching this Pope makes me wonder if he wasn't correct. According to his supposed prophecy this is the last Roman Catholic Pope prior to Christ's returning, and while I would say most Catholics know, and love Jesus, his actions make me believe he is apostate. The catholic church has literally no authority at all any more. Not on the faith, not on anything. With their pedophile Priests, and a Pope that is completely detached from historical Biblical faith you folks simply have nothing to offer the world at all anymore, and certainly no moral high ground. That is what you have chained your faith to. I have chained mine to Jesus actual teachings and words, that is where my faith is, in Jesus completed work on the cross. Yours seems to be on some other guys who said some other things.

No you really don't follow 200 years of theology, you follow 2000 years of tradition. Very different thing. And I am following the one that leads to Christ, and I assume you are as well. I see no reason to try and sit in the Bema seat of judgment to decide about your salvation, as you seem to do, but given that seat belongs only to Christ Himself you may want to vacate it, quickly. You know that passage of scripture that people like to quote about judging? It is actually specifically relating to what you just did, judging another's salvation or relationship with Christ. Small differences of opinion on matters not central to faith, like who wrote what letter well after Jesus earthly ministry, are not things that we ought to be using to judge someone's salvation. You know who seems to do that with frightening regularity, beyond the Sith Darth Maul, are Catholics. Ever hear of the Inquisition? Filled with folks like you that could not stand others believing anything but the Catholic Orthodoxy, and you guys had to kill them all. Oh, and Just to be clear, not only am I not a Pope, I wouldn't want to be such a corrupt and venal individual.
