A10. A big lesson is that experiences are great, but financial habits last longer. Planning ahead, tracking spending, and understanding how credit works can help you avoid turning a short trip into long-term debt. #CreditChat

A10: I spend most of my Spring Breaks working. Had some fun, but avoided debt and helped pay some expenses. It's good to learn how to balance work and fun, and to experience the relief it gives when you don't have those debts! #CreditChat

Q10. Looking back, what’s one financial lesson Spring Break taught you about credit, budgeting, or borrowing? #CreditChat

A9: The good news about utilization is that once paid down, scores bounce back up. Pay balances in full when the bill arrives. Utilization will drop and scores will go up. If you expect it and then pay the debt it isn't a huge problem. If you don't. . . #CreditChat

Q9. Travel often means swiping more than usual. How can students manage credit utilization during high-spend periods without hurting their scores? #CreditChat

A8. This honestly depends on the student. Using credit for planned expenses and paying on time can help build positive history. Overspending or missing payments, however, can set you back. Intentional use is key. #CreditChat

A8: Like every credit question, the answer is that it depends. If done well it can be a great credit builder. But it could also send you flying off the rails. It's all about self-control, having a plan and sticking to that plan. #CreditChat

Q8. For students just starting to build credit: Do you think Spring Break is a good opportunity to build positive payment history, or an easy time to get off track? #CreditChat

A7: They are all risky from the outset. Cash advances are just loans you have repay, often with higher interest rates. BNPL sounds great but can be a debt stacking disaster. Carrying a balance just means you pay the bank more over time. Maybe a lot more. #CreditChat

A5: If you’re putting group travel on your card, set expectations & collect money ASAP. My rule: only charge it if you could cover the full amount yourself. If you're not repaid, you’re still responsible for every charge on your card, even if it was for someone else. #CreditChat

A5: Venmo request your friends BEFORE, BEFORE, BEFORE the trip, not after. Nobody has "I'll pay you back" energy once they're home doing laundry and recovering. Be the Monica of the group. 🧹 #CreditChat

A5: Track Everything Transparently. Use Splitwise, chipp.it or Settle Up to log who owes what in real time. This avoids awkward conversations and “I thought I paid already” moments. #creditchat

A6 Before traveling, make sure the basics are covered: rent, groceries, books and minimum payments. One safeguard is keeping those essentials in a separate account so vacation spending doesn’t accidentally crowd them out. #CreditChat

A6: It's all in the planning. You should set aside funds for necessary expenses and save for Spring Break travel and fun. Having a plan and sticking to it can maximize fun and minimize stress when you get back. #CreditChat
