People tell me carnivore is restrictive. Let us look at the trade, carefully, because I am genuinely struggling to find the part I am supposed to be suffering through. What I give up: foods that I steadily lost interest in anyway. The bread I used to eat out of habit and stopped thinking about within a month. The cereal I ate because the advert told me to. The pasta that was always a vehicle for the sauce. The rice that was a vehicle for the meat. The biscuits I ate because they were on the counter, not because I was hungry. The crisps I ate because I was bored. The cake I ate because it was somebody's birthday. The pint I drank because everyone else was. What I get in exchange: an extra hour a day that used to be spent planning, shopping, negotiating, and feeling guilty. The complete disappearance of the voice in my head that used to debate every meal. A steady mood. Steady energy. Sleep that arrives on time and leaves on time. Skin that looks like it belongs to someone with a functional liver. A body composition I used to pay a personal trainer to chase. Put a finger on the spot on the ledger where I am supposed to be losing out, because I have looked over the accounts for five years now and the numbers keep coming out the same way.
