At last I am able to share some fantastic news. Freak the Mighty has been adapted into a musical. There is an open casting call for young actors to play Max and Kevin, with a two-week workshop late in the year, followed by a premiere at an as yet undetermined regional theater.

Much too soon to say this is headed to Broadway, but that’s the intention of the producers, if all goes well. Book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe, music by Ryan Garrett Fielding, directed by Christopher Ashley. Casting call is from the Telsey Office.

25 years ago today, the comedy-drama film, #TheMighty, directed by #PeterChelsom, adapted by #CharlesLeavitt from the book #FreakTheMighty by #RodmanPhilbrick, and starring #SharonStone, #GenaRowlands, #GillianAnderson, #HarryDeanStanton, and #KieranCulkin, opened in US cinemas.

I just learned on wikipedia that there's a movie that starred Roman Roy from Succession and Foggy Nelson from Daredevil when they were kids and the supporting adults included Sharon Stone, Meat Loaf, James Gandolfini, Gillian Anderson, Harry Dean Stanton, and Gena Rowlands.

@spooloflies I'm with you in wishing they had used the original title.

(It was based on a Rodman Philbrick book! But they called the movie THE MIGHTY instead of FREAK THE MIGHTY even though FREAK THE MIGHTY is a better title and also I would have actually seen it if I knew it was FREAK THE MIGHTY.)

I recently attended the award ceremony at the New-York Historical Society. They selected 'We Own the Sky as the best children's historical novel for 2022. On the left, that's me with Scholastic's Emily Seife, who edited the book. On the right, Alice Stevenson presented the medal.
