Yesterday was a big day! And could not have happened without the support of friends, and the invaluable advice of my supervisors, academic advisors, and colleagues. @mtidmu made my doctorate possible. Thank you!

@mugloch @JSageClarinet My Regent was good, got me through grade 8. I always rather fancied a Vito Dazzler in blue or yellow, but it didn't happen.
English

@RogerHeaton9 @JSageClarinet I'm slowly amassing a collection of plastic clarinets, mostly for experimentation. And while I have no basis for comparison (crappy technique, and I've never played a good wooden instrument), these plastic ones aren't bad at all.
English

@JSageClarinet and I stripped the metalwork off a clarinet. Any the holes can be blocked/opened as required (for multiphonics).
Much fun! but more experimentation needed: high partials 'pop' more without the pads covering the holes (working theory).

@fantasticdrfox Good news from Slovenia too. The fewer right wing populists we have the better.
English

@ianpacemain There might be something in the Darmstadt archive. 1957 HB went as a clarinettist not composer. Goehr and Max D both had clarinet pieces played that year by Georgina Dobree with Cardew, piano, and Max piano.
English

@ianpacemain I swear less than I used to but sigh more now when my fingers won't do as they're told. And yes, so many composers often just filling space with unnecessary 'busy' noise.

Very happy to announce that I have been appointed Professor of Music at @CityUniMusic

@Sheppardskaerve Hi Peter. Wonderful. Nice film too. There are quite a few Yun clarinet pieces we clarinettists still play. He is quite out of fashion now, certainly in the UK, but his chamber and solo works are his best I think; the symphonies and the big things are rather odd!

This masterpiece has been on my mind and in my fingers, all week. After the performance last night, I had to play it again this morning, as the storm got going. And then, down to the beach - low tide at St Hildas Wharf. youtu.be/VNOgKowqlLE

@mugloch @LeedsUniMusic Looks fascinating, as do many of the other chapters going by the contributor list. Will wait for the ebook!

Very excited to have a new book chapter published today! It's from the Garden of Forking Paths Project, discussing a materiality-based approach to writing for clarinet. Ebook will be out later in the year if you'd rather wait for that.

English

@ianpacemain Yes, although I find hundreds of footnotes irritating.
English

@heather_roche Ignorant clot. If he has any knowledge of instruments he just needs to use his ears. Good you've complained. On the bright side this is Boris and Nadine's house rag, nobody even slightly interested in new art will read it.
English

@mugloch The first. Seeing the fingering is best for me rather than learning another graphic representation.
English

@heather_roche Really good concert! Thanks to BKA for live streaming.

@ascschoenberg Schoenberg was due to teach at Darmstadt in summer 1951, he withdrew and the replacement they found was Adorno!

@CarlRosman Hey Carl
Good old cut and paste, will have a go. Thought you might have a snazzy digital solution! Would love to hear your Interludes with your new tape.
