India may be the world's most populous country, but major shifts in its underlying demographics – and their massive implications – have gone unnoticed by many. On @CASIPenn's India In Transition, we present a new series on India's Demographic Dilemmas, by @Rukmini @dataforin.

Spoke with my friend India's Minister of External Affairs @DrSJaishankar and briefed him on developments in our operation against the Iranian terror regime. I said that the regime is carrying out naval terrorism in the Strait of Hormuz. This is not an American or Israeli issue, it's a fundamental problem affecting world order and the global economy. If this grave phenomenon is not addressed now, it could spread worldwide. I also addressed the Iranian regime’s aggression toward other countries in the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Europe. I emphasized that the Iranian regime is acting madly. We value our special strategic partnership with India, the world's largest democracy. 🇮🇱🇮🇳

On India Inside Out, I spoke to @nicoblar about Modi's surprising decision to go to Israel in the build-up to the attacks, and what it tells us about India's usually careful positioning in the region – plus the Delhi-Abu Dhabi connection.

The term would come to be used-as a catch-all for Indian merchant communities in the region, and the tree in particular at Bandar Abbas near Hormuz, would remain famous – as seen here in Jean-Baptiste Tavernier's 1684 volume.

All a reminder that Indian presence in this region is not a consequence of (recent) oil money (and all supposed to be part of a longer writing project on India & the Gulf that I hope to eventually get to).

The Qatar Digital Library has a nice short post bringing some of this material together, including how the 'Banians' ended up being key interlocutors for Arab-European commerce for decades after. qdl.qa/en/bania-gulf

Glad to share my paper published in @GSQ_Journal on British colonial thought concerning India. May be of interest to people working on global histories of international thought covering sovereignty, geopolitics, and maximalist territorial projects. academic.oup.com/isagsq/article…
