He outlined his views on the Draft Irish Language Policy, saying the proposals would boost the visibility of Irish in the city and stressing that Belfast has "the most lively and energetic Irish language community in Ireland." On staff safety concerns, he said he would always support council workers and if there are any issues they should be dealt with by the police. Belfast City Council will debate the issue tomorrow night.

As First Minister, I’ve decided not to attend the White House events this year. The US President’s comments on forced expulsion of the Palestinian people of Gaza cannot be ignored. I will continue to engage with senior figures in the US for peace and economic growth. In the future, when our children and grandchildren ask us what we did while the Palestinian people endured unimaginable suffering, I will say I stood firmly on the side of humanity.
