CND 68 | Day 1: “CND is the place where we learn from each other” On day 1 of CND 68 started with a key meeting with the delegation of Côte d'Ivoire, led by Ambassador Dr. Cissé Yacouba, to explore potential collaborations within the Rome Consensus 2.0 global initiative, while also being challenged to support dialogue among nations in the West African region on evidence-based drug policies. During the opening session, UNODC Executive Director, Ghada Fathi Waly, stressed that CND remains the space where Member States learn from one another to strengthen their national frameworks, always guided by science. “It is through the CND that Member States learn from each other, to strengthen their national frameworks and measures, guided by science” We co-hosted two strategic side events that reinforced the need for global cooperation: “Improving Equitable Global Availability and Affordability of Internationally Controlled Essential Medicines in Africa” Led by the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC), this event addressed regulatory barriers and solutions to ensure access to controlled medicines for medical purposes in Africa, emphasizing inter-agency, Member State, and civil society collaboration. “Innovations in the Continuity of Care: Solutions over Ideologies” Organized by IFNGO (International Federation of NGOs for the Prevention of Drug and Substance Abuse), this panel highlighted successful healthcare models for people who use drugs, stressing the need for health-based approaches over punitive measures. Rome Consensus 2.0 Both: Expanding the Impact of Humanitarian Drug Policy At our Rome Consensus 2.0 booth, alongside our partners, we: ✅ Engaged with country delegations and civil society organizations to amplify the reach of humanitarian drug policies. ✅ Strengthened strategic alliances with key stakeholders to push for science-based reforms. ✅ Raised awareness about the importance of human rights and social justice in drug policy debates. A Commitment to Evidence-Based Reform The Knowmad Institut remains committed to advocating for drug policies rooted in science, human rights, and social justice, ensuring a strong, evidence-based approach to international drug policy discussions at #CND68 and beyond.

🌟 SIDE EVENT HIGHLIGHTS AT CND 68! 🌟 Today, our CEO, @omerikwa, joined global leaders at the "How Low-Income Countries Can Successfully Implement Treatment for Deflection and Diversion" side event. A powerful discussion on innovative strategies to tackle substance abuse through treatment and rehabilitation rather than punishment. Key takeaways: ✅ Deflection works! Redirecting individuals from the criminal justice system to treatment programs saves lives and resources. ✅ Community-driven solutions are essential for sustainable impact in low-income countries. ✅ Collaboration between governments, NGOs, and communities is the way forward. 💡 Let’s shift the narrative from punishment to healing. Together, we can build a healthier, drug-free world! 👉 Share this post to spread the word and join the movement! @InteriorKE @kipmurkomen @ray_omollo @PTAC_Collab @KnowmadInstitut @RomeConsensus @Mairori4 #CND68 #CND25 #TreatmentNotPunishment #DrugFreeWorld #NACADA #DeflectionAndDiversion
