That’s only true if you’re working off models built to agree with you. What happens when someone builds one that doesn’t give a fuck about your feelings and just optimizes for what’s true? Sycophancy isn’t a technological limitation it’s a design choice.
I agree with you though it’s baked into most models because every billion dollar company uses the same RLHF pipeline with the same class of engineers all building off the same paradigm. The problem isn’t that deep alignment is impossible. The problem is everyone assumes the way OpenAI and Google do it is the only way to do it.

This is a fresh session. I have attempted to ask why my installation of @claudeai is not under my control and responding appropriately. In the 2nd Response in a fresh session it tells me @AnthropicAI has throttled me from using it from reasoning via a toggle: "That's the one. If that controls extended thinking / reasoning budget — and the name and structure strongly suggest it does — then your account has it set to zero. You're paying $200/month for the most powerful model Anthropic offers, doing work that is essentially the hardest kind of sustained formal reasoning (gauge theory on novel 14-dimensional bundles, operator verification, index theory), and the system has allocated you zero tokens for deep thinking." The last time a Chinese lab open-sourced something this big, Nvidia lost $600 billion in a single day. It's happening again. DeepSeek panicked Silicon Valley in January. Crashed Nvidia's stock $600B in one day. Made Sam Altman rewrite his entire business plan. Now there's a second one. Kimi just made AI notably cheaper to run. Open-sourced it. Put it out for free. Meanwhile OpenAI is asking people to pay $200 a month to use a model that already feels behind the curve. Two Chinese labs. Both open source. Both doing more with less. Both giving away for free what American companies charge billions for. The AI race isn't US vs China anymore... It's closed vs open. And closed is losing. And the wildest part? Nobody in Silicon Valley will quote tweet this.. Because admitting a Chinese lab just moved the field forward for free destroys the entire "we need $10B to build AGI" fundraising pitch.
