@AndrewDahDude @electionsjoe @liberalpotus24 I just note the issue of partisan balance as unfortunately that is how party leaders in Washington see it and without an even number of expulsions you would likely see none succeed.
(And that is a criticism of the current political system that everyone needs to have.)

California has a "top two" primary system, where the Republicans were arguably slated to lock out the Democrats of the governorship altogether, until this post.
My guess is (a) Trump doesn't know this or (b) his advisors failed to understand this, regardless--not ideal.
Also, it would have made more sense for Trump to endorse the candidate he didn't want to win, after the primary, given the fact that most voters in the general will be Dems.
