Ronke Bain appeared on ITV Calendar discussing how 10-year-old Tommie Denman’s severe hearing loss went undetected by doctors for three-and-a-half years. Despite repeated tests, specialists at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust reassured Tommie’s parents that his hearing was fine. Doctors maintained his lack of development was more likely a result of him being born prematurely. The audiology department at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby where Tommie was treated, along with that at Scunthorpe General Hospital, was investigated in 2023 after an NHS screening programme flagged concerns over test results. Tommie’s mum, Kirstie, says his life has been ‘forever affected’ and fears that other children who were born before the period covered by the review may never be correctly diagnosed. If you’d like to speak to one of our medical negligence specialists about a similar concern, please contact us on 0808 231 6915 for free initial legal advice. Durham breast cancer patient Catriona McEvoy says she has been 'angered and upset' by reviews which have revealed 'appalling' failings at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, with hundreds of patients potentially harmed due to a ‘decade-long pattern of systemic failures’. Breast out-patient clinics were found to have 'rushed' patient appointments, and failed to follow guidelines over a number of years. The failings led to delayed diagnoses, unnecessary mastectomies and axillary clearance, and benign procedures that were not clinically indicated. Hudgell Solicitors is representing Catriona and others in pursuing legal claims against the Trust, and will be holding a FREE LEGAL CLINIC on Friday, November 28th, from 8.30am-5.30pm to support anyone concerned about their treatment. Book an appointment with medical negligence claims specialist Rachel O'Connor by emailing rko@hudgellsolicitors.co.uk or calling 01482 234920. Read Catriona's story: bit.ly/43RKSM0 #RightingWrongs

We are pleased to have secured a lump sum £1.5m compensation award – and significant further annual payments - for a family to cover the cost of care for their daughter who was born with severe, lifelong disabilities. Compensation was secured as part of a legal claim. The trust made admissions that if MRI scans had been taken at an appropriate time during pregnancy, the girl’s severe disabilities would have been recognised and the parents informed. The compensation will cover the cost of purchasing a single-floor property for the family, which can be extended and altered to meet their daughter’s requirements, as well as specialist equipment including hoists, beds and chairs to assist with movement and ensure comfort. Solicitor Sam Darwin said: “Bringing up a severely disabled child comes with huge life sacrifices, mental, physical and emotional stress, and also a huge financial cost. “The family had very little assistance in providing the care that their daughter has needed, so I am delighted that this settlement will ensure they can all now enjoy a much better quality of life and look forward, knowing all they need is in place for them.” If you would like to speak to one of our experts, please contact us on 0808 231 6915 or visit our website to learn more: hudgellsolicitors.co.uk/client-stories…

Hudgell Solicitors have been instructed by seven families to investigate the care provided to loved ones who died after undergoing heart valve operations at Castle Hill Hospital in East Yorkshire. All patients died after undergoing the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedures, a minimally invasive heart procedure used to treat narrowed heart valves. “The time has come for full transparency and proper accountability,” said solicitor @NeilHudgell, executive chairman of Hudgell Solicitors. Earlier today, BBC Social Affairs Correspondent @BBCMBuchanan published an article highlighting the case of our client Brian Holmes. If you have worries about the treatment provided at Hull Royal Infirmary or Castle Hill Hospital, our dedicated team is here to help. Leah Parker and her mother Carmen say their concerns were repeatedly dismissed by midwives at Scarborough Hospital during labour, as her baby boy Sonny's heart rate continually slowed. Sonny died shortly after birth, and following a legal case, York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust admitted that delivery should have been started more than an hour-and-a-half before it was, which, on the balance of probabilities, would have prevented loss of life. Samantha Gardner, of Hudgell Solicitors, said: "The Trust issued a full apology to Leah and her partner Dale for their loss. "Apologies, however, are not enough. Over the years, our lawyers have seen hundreds of apologies to parents who have suffered loss and injury due to maternity negligence, and presently, we’re seeing more than ever." Read more 👇

🏥 Investigation into treatment at Addenbrooke’s Hospital & Kuldeep Stohr - Q&A with Elizabeth Maliakal. Hudgell Solicitors’ expert medical negligence lawyers are providing specialist advice and support to families concerned about the treatment their children received at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, following the suspension of orthopaedic surgeon Kuldeep Stohr. Medical Negligence Solicitor Elizabeth Maliakal, who is representing several families, recently shared an update on the investigation and said: "We’ve spoken with individuals who’ve either been told their case wasn’t included in the hospital’s review, or that a review found no harm occurred. However, based on our own initial legal assessment, we believe many of these cases warrant further investigation." 📺Watch the full update here: youtu.be/qFmKb7Ndkn8 For those concerned about the treatment received at the hospital, Elizabeth is hosting a free legal advice clinic on Thursday 17 July & Friday 18 July. 📞Please contact Elizabeth on 01482 688148 or em@hudgellsolicitors.co.uk to arrange your slot. #RightingWrongs

Birth Trauma Awareness Week is a heartfelt and important reminder of the issues that continue to affect maternity care in the UK. This year, the @BirthTrauma are focusing their awareness week on inequalities, and the statistics shared are deeply concerning, especially when we understand they reflect the lived experiences of women who deserve safe, compassionate care. No one should face additional risks because of their race or immigration status. When care is inconsistent or inaccessible, it can leave lasting emotional and physical impacts, not only for mothers but for families and communities too. Compassion, accountability, and equality should be at the heart of all maternity services. Let’s join BTA and amplify this message, support the voices calling for change, and push for a future where maternity care is safe, respectful, and accessible for everyone. #BTAW25 #GoodMaternityCareForAll #EndRacialInequalityInBirth

It’s Birth Trauma Awareness Week. This year, we focus on marginalised groups facing extra barriers in maternity care, from racial disparities to challenges faced by disabled and neurodivergent mothers. Let’s listen. Let’s learn. Let’s do better. #GoodMaternityCareforAll #BTAW25

An Inquest heard how Paul Bowen's brothers took him to the police, concerned for his safety as he had threatened to kill himself after the break-up of his relationship. However, police mistakenly told him he was being accused of a serious offence involving having a knife when at his ex-partner's house, leaving him 'distraught'. Police released Paul without having carried out an appropriate health assessment, and he went missing and was found dead two days later, having taken his own life. Iftikhar Manzoor, of Hudgell Solicitors, represents Mr Bowen’s brothers, and said: "Paul was a man in the midst of a serious mental health crisis and breakdown and his brothers turned to the police for help, but he was completely failed by them." Sepsis is often misdiagnosed as symptoms are misinterpreted and patients are not thoroughly assessed. A year ago, NHS England implemented ‘Martha’s Rule’, which aims to improve early intervention by giving patients and families the right to request a second opinion. ‘It is designed to ensure concerns are taken seriously and potentially life-saving treatment is provided sooner,’ says our medical negligence solicitor, Matthew Gascoyne. Yet another family has been told their child underwent ‘unacceptable’ surgeries at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Finias, who experts say suffered ‘harm’, was under the care of surgeon Yaser Jabbar, whose practice has become the focus of a huge investigation involving 721 patients. Hudgell Solicitors represents Finias and a large number of other families in relation to pursuing compensation as a result of the injuries caused by treatments provided by Mr Jabbar. In almost half of the cases seen by our medical negligence team, independent experts found ‘severe harm’ was caused. ‘I do feel let down,’ says Finias, now aged 15, who awaits further surgery. Our solicitor, Cyrus Plaza, told @SkyNews that in these cases, interim compensation awards should be paid.
