If you hear of reports of loud "booms," it may be cryoseismic activity aka frost quakes. If you're new to the area, don't worry, they're harmless. These occur when liquid water quickly freezes and expands in the soil or bedrock. We have an ideal setup for this given the amount of runoff we had during the winter storm and the very cold temperatures in place now. -NWS Nashville

Falling trees continue to cause damage to our system, particularly on the service lines that run directly from a transformer to a home. Of our roughly 770 total incidents, around 670 are single outages affecting just one meter. This means that our crews must make 670 separate trips to repair these outages, which will take time. ⚠️ Winter Storm Fern Update: Our power system remains stable, and generating sites are performing well as Winter Storm Fern moves out of the region. Line crews are on the ground in Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee assessing transmission line damage and working to restore service. We are working closely with local power companies to restore service in affected areas and coordinate restoration efforts. While the storm is moving out, extreme cold is expected this week. Icy patches and black ice remain a concern overnight, with temperatures dropping into the single digits and wind chills near zero.

@NashSevereWx I’m curious if the greens/yellows on the crap app radar is a good thing for us? I’m in Fairview and it keeps flip flopping. Just not sure if we should cheer the greens and yellows or not.

Current thinking on accumulation. Right now several short term models predict about 2-3" of snow. Then between .25-.75" of ice. This will make things, um... difficult for us. Difficult for tree limbs and power lines, and very difficult for roads. Then, dangerously cold overnight temps. Not great news, but in line with what we have forecasted. These amounts are not set in stone and may change is this storm evolves over the next 8 hours.
