Were Canada to ban floor crossing, we would be suppressing the individual minds of those we elect, and further concentrating power in party leaders. As things stand now, floor crossing protects independence and keeps pressure on leaders to treat their colleagues well lest they watch those colleagues head elsewhere. Floor crossing – and the threat of it – protects us from a system where those we elect turn into mindless drones serving nothing more than the centralized will of ‘the leader.’
So, whether you agree with Gladu’s decision or not, it is essential to protect the right of MPs to cross the floor. The individual mind is the most precious resource we have.

There’s a certain idea that you hear a lot from the Canadian media that basically any random ass undemocratic thing that happens in Canadian politics is perfectly fine because that’s just “our system” and you should shut up and accept it. The voter should be understood to have zero influence over anything of actual consequence in terms of who runs this country, while the politicians should get to do whatever they want. Because that’s “our system.”
I feel like a lot of this stuff has a very gaslighting quality to it. When people make these blunt “our system” arguments they’re basically telling Canadians to not trust their own instincts of right and wrong or just or unjust. They’re told “this is just the way things are done here and if you complain you’re an ignorant simpleton.”
These arguments are ALWAYS made in the direction of giving more power to politicians and less power to voters. I’m getting sick of it.

If Poilievre lost Gladu to the Liberals then he has one hell of a problem. Gladu was a hardcore conservative. A lot of Liberals will be offended at her opportunism in crossing over but the larger point is that Poilievre lost a stalwart that nobody would have bet on crossing.

A professor in Queer Studies in Education at the University of Regina is making international news for unique personal pronouns. According to The Daily Mail and the New York Post, Dr. j skelton requested in an online bio, “Please use my name in lieu of preferred pronouns… lower case letters please.” The professor is a self-described “queer trans jew” and parent of three children (two of whom j birthed and one of whom identifies as non-binary). j has authored three children’s books with Flamingo Rampant, a publisher focused on queer/trans children’s books. The professor’s academic research is with young children and their caregivers to co-create queer and trans educational spaces. Following the 2025 Regina Teachers’ Convention (whose keynote speaker addressed the illegitimacy of the parental rights movement), Dr. skelton spoke at the protest against parental rights in Saskatchewan’s Bill 137 held at the Artisian. According to a former student, Dr. skelton’s class is mandatory for a degree in education at the University of Regina.
