Indigenous leader declares that no proof is necessary that 215 dead children lie below the surface in Kamloops because indigenous people have the psychic power (which white people cannot “understand”) to communicate with dead people & experience their “energy”
Frances Widdowson@FrancesWiddows1

"I don't think we should have to prove to anybody what happened to these [dead children at Kamloops] because they are there and they send us messages telling us they're there...[@tkemlups] Chief Casimir and I went to visit the sacred site. You can tell they're there, right?"

I was opposed to the convoy blockades, so read this piece with an open mind. What a mistake. Total slop. Repeats the completely debunked claim that convoy activists attempted arson in an Ottawa high rise apartment building. With huge government subsidies, foundation money, and charitable status, why can’t @thewalrus afford a fact checker? The whole piece reflects the cartoonish smugness of the left, basically stating (without even attempting to make a coherent argument) that the right is monolithically in the service of elite corporate interests, and the left is the heroic champion of working people. The truth is that the more extreme elements of the convoy movement resembled a kind of right wing anarchism, i.e. a profound distrust of and hostility to institutions and elites, including corporate elites, with a desire to tear it all down. The notion that the Convoy movement was somehow in the service of big corporate interests is obviously risible. Ironically, this sophomoric leftism is being published by a magazine that is funded by @TD_Canada, inter alia, a perfect example of corporate wokism as described in Sohrab Amari’s Tyranny, Inc.

For progressives, the fight against the Freedom Convoy wasn’t only about ending an occupation but about preventing the far right from defining working-class anger. Labour activist @AlexSilasPSAC examines who benefits when solidarity breaks down. thewalrus.ca/how-i-faced-of…

You can bait people into deleting their comments in left wing subs by making up reasons as to why it propagates oppression. Exhibit A: The word 'reasonable' is ableist.

Nenshi apologizes for a photo taken of him with the Israeli ambassador, which of course is a dumb capitulation. What was he supposed to do, refuse to stand next to him? And how does he propose he would serve as premier, representing Alberta's interests, if he won't even stand next to people he opposes?

@caylanford I don’t think so. Xenophon and his friends financed their way out of Persian territory largely by slaughter and slaving

@jonkay Suitable for 10-year-olds? A mid-century children’s adaptation of the Anabasis is on my school’s grade 5 reading list, but it’s just ok.

I just tore through my review copy of this gem—one of my favourite new books of 2026. The second half focuses on Xenophon's incredible journey. The first part offers fascinating capsule background essays on ancient warfare, & the snake-pit political dynamics of Athens & Persia
Simon & Schuster@SimonBooks

A riveting retelling of one of the great adventure stories of antiquity—when Greek philosopher-warrior Xenophon led a stranded band of the “Ten Thousand” mercenary soldiers on a treacherous escape from the Persians. Band on the Run by Robert L. O'Connell, available 7/28: bit.ly/444HnBt

In Canada, drug addiction counts as a disability, which means employers can be sued for firing workers who are on drugs. One man sued after nearly killing a coworker in a workplace accident. Former Chair of Canadian Human Rights Tribunal in @Quillette quillette.com/2026/07/16/i-c…
