NEW ANALYSIS - With the UK government poised to back the expansion of Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton, we crunched the numbers on the climate impact of these plans. The UK would need to plant a new forest 2X the size of London to offset the emissions from all the extra flights 🌳✈️

@SpooksandBooks @saranaidinecox My feedback was great and 100% spot on. You know feedback is good when that niggling voice in the back of your head that you’ve been trying to ignore pipes up and says ‘I told you so.’ My book is going to be so much better thanks to your feedback, many thanks for it!

@saranaidinecox I can only speak for myself, of course, but my feedback was certainly not generic. It was detailed, encouraging and really helpful. Thank you again!

1. Who really won the US election? The fossil fuel companies and other polluting industries. We scarcely heard about them during the election campaign, which is just how they like it. Almost everything we *did* hear about was a distraction from the real agenda. 🧵

1 thing that strikes me as someone who got it wrong is how Trump victory’s become a mini Rorschach test. A few 100,000 secret votes in swing states now represents and validates a 100 worldviews. What are the most striking unusual explanations of victory you’ve come across here?

She knew it earlier than most of us and paid a high price for pointing it out. She’s back now and not for a cheap ‚told you so‘. But to warn us again. That it’s late. But not too late. Rarely say sthg is a must read, but this is.👇 @carolecadwallatheguardian.com/commentisfree/…

@cbcreative @richardroper ‘Who’s that man with the bodyguards and the fake tan?’ Jake said. ‘Wait! What the hell’s he doing here?’ Sally looked down, tapping the bunker with her sand wedge, ‘I know you don’t like him but I thought maybe we could soften him up before he starts his job in January’ #WriteCBC

@MichaelRosenYes Surely we can find out for sure by seeing if there’s a correlation between piles and the introduction of heated seats in cars (if so, they might have to change the ads a bit)

Do you remember when they said that if you sat on the school radiators you'd get piles? Is that medically proven? Does the heat go up there and make everything swell up? And blam! You've got piles. I bet those old cast iron ones were the worst. They had ripples on the top.

It wasn't that long ago yet we act as though the pandemic barely happened. It was devastating for so many of us as @Kevin_Fong poignantly highlights here. Also important to remember that for many people it's not over; there are ~2million people still living with #LongCovid in UK
Prof. Christina Pagel - @chrischirp.bsky.social@chrischirp

Prof @Kevin_Fong giving the most devastating and moving testimony to the Covid Inquiry of visiting hospital intensive care units at the height of the second wave in late Dec 2020. The unimaginable scale of death, the trauma, the loss of hope. Please watch this 2min clip.

To all the people saying "they should have locked the Just Stop Oil protesters up for longer", enjoy your weekend. But please remember that you wouldn't have a weekend, or any other fundamental right, were it not for protesters who were reviled by people like you.🧵
