@RossM_2003 sign in to the online service, then select the tax code, then there should be a link that says how we've calculated that. Steve

@HMRCcustomers Yes it is. I put my income through your tax calculator with this months wage included and it says I should have paid 6.1k in tax, after this wage i’ll have paid 9.5k

@RossM_2003 We reduce your allowance to collect the extra tax for the underpayment. As a basic rate taxpayer, a restriction of £340 will collect £68 (340 x 20% = £68). If you're unsure why you owe the tax, please contact us directly for an explanation. Thanks, Martin

@HMRCcustomers A previous underpayment of £68 in tax but last year was the 1st year I made enough to pay tax and it says I paid the correct amount. Even then how does £68 equal a £300+ deduction
