So what is space twitter going to talk about in 5 years when there’s thousands of starship launches a year, we have a moon base, and the beginnings of a mars colony? There won’t be any more haters or doubters and it’s not like there will ever be a better rocket to look forward to since starship is already at the edge of physics. We’re gonna be so bored

Im getting a really strong feeling that SpaceX will delay Flight 13 to Friday without a launch attempt on Thursday, mainly because we're only 60 hours away from launch and we still are yet to see rollout notices for S40 and B20, however they could still have time to do that

If you can do a successful landing in the gulf from orbit you can do the tower. Why risk something going wrong during reentry that wasn’t planned

@spacepoodoer2 @Alex_Dinu11 @mcrs987 There’s no point in going through the effort to get ship back to the vicinity of Starbase only to dunk it in the gulf. If they don’t intend to catch it, just ditch it somewhere else. The document also notes that the first orbital mission is Starbase to Starbase.

Messing around with the recent environmental assessment information published earlier today for ship contingency landing zones. If my extrapolation is near-correct it looks like the first orbital flight will go into a ~48.7º profile, only two orbits and it's down in just about three hours

They’ve done aggressive reentries for the past 8 flights to mimic the extra velocity. It’ll be the same reentry just a bit more spicy, they’ve also done the hook maneuver to align with the launch site twice now too, with a third time this upcoming flight.
Even if it was better to wait one more flight I bet SpaceX sees it like this:
Benefit of catching a ship and having a refurbish-able ship > waiting months to produce another ship and having extra orbital reentry data

SpaceX wont recover ship until minimum flight 15 and wont catch the 1st orbital ship for safety. Flight 14 is booster catch/ship landing in the Gulf. Flight 15 is full-stack catch. No reason to scrap a working booster for a ship catch. BTW this is all if flight 13 goes well.

@RotsoRobbie That makes no sense lol, they’ve done so many reentries, doing one more reentry won’t make the ship catch any safer. If they’re going to orbit then they’re going to attempt a ship catch
