"Scholars have contended that students have become consumer-like in their behaviour..Often, however, such claims are made on the basis of limited empirical evidence, or a focus on policies and structures rather than the perspectives of students themselves" buff.ly/3aSVIsX

@YetAnotherShaun @cathellis13 @CCguerilla @neilmosley5 My most memorable task wasn't assessment. I learned to teach a skill. Over 2 classes we learned a theory, the practice, we applied it in an origami task with a peer, we got immediate individual feedback from peers and staff. It felt useful. I felt invested in. It stuck.

Maybe we should start a list... Feedback that recognises what a student DID do, not just where they fell short of pre-determined criteria.
Prof. Cath Ellis@cathellis13

@YetAnotherShaun @CCguerilla @neilmosley5 Yep. @RowenaHarper79 and I were talking about this the other day. She advocates for a shift from transactional to relational. So - what does relational assessment look like in my courses? (I wonder out loud to myself)

In 2022, two things happened in AI: 1) #AcademicTwitter began worrying about students using AI to write their essays 2) a Google engineer alleges that their AI is sentient My 2023 prediction: 3) AI starts leaving these essays to the last minute and requesting extensions

Favourite student evaluation comment this semester from a first year student “An anti-anxiety medication in the form of a person.” Wonder if I can add that to my bio??

@girlwonders Yes - we know students use them productively for a range of reasons, but would like consistency in managing the implications of misuse.

@RowenaHarper79 Nothing specifically at policy level although we no longer allow bilingual dictionaries in exams. Are you referring to misuse of these tools?

Academic integrity question: translation tools - do you address them in your AI policies for students, and if so how? #highered

‘So many learning analytics projects are really just ways to create better reports for upper level admin. Please: don’t make “data-driven” become a synonymy for “ignore past research and re-invent the wheel” in educators eyes.’ #highereducation buff.ly/2F9k12n
