I’m logging off from here for a few days.
It’s breaking my heart seeing those hideous pictures of that poor horse at Aintree.
Seems to be all over my timeline today.
The Grand National will no doubt have more horses killed in the name of “sport”.
Should be banned.

Everything about horse racing is stressful and potentially harmful for the horse.
Dirt tracks, excessive speed, overuse before bone structure is complete, jumping, separation from other animals during training and breeding, mouth clamps, whips.
All of it.
I believe it's truly unethical. I grew up with horses; They are not meant to live like this.
If you believe the same,
-do not gamble/bet on horse racing
-Do not attend the derby
-Do not host/attend derby parties.

Ban steeplechase forevermore; and jail the asshole who beat this beautiful horse to its death.
Take all the winnings money and put it in a fund named for Gold Dancer, to rehabilitate abused racehorses.

The S*n mocked @ZackPolanski this week for suggesting (years ago btw, not current policy) that we end the practice of fence racing for horses. Look at this picture and tell me you can't see the argument.

@alexfmac @PollyWi92611992 What horrifies me is the continued public popularity of this extreme sport that belongs in the history bin. Unlike Australia where jumps racing only continues in one State, Victoria and is on its last legs due to lack of public support.

Forcing horses to race over hurdles and in steeplechases is cruel when you consider their natural design and behaviour. They are built to run on open ground at their own pace, not to be pushed at speed over artificial obstacles for sport and entertainment. The risk of injury is an unavoidable part of the event, which puts human spectacle above animal welfare.

We’ll just leave the stables open and see if they make their way to Aintree to risk their lives for the enjoyment and profit of others.
I’m all for sport - but I think the animal suffering in horse racing specifically is so high and an unacceptable cost.
