@RazorwireRPG For me, the most hilarious thing is that if you off Tenpenny you can STILL blow up Megaton with Philips taking Tenpenny's place in the discussion. He makes extremely bigoted statements about murdering Megaton's "smoothskins" and yet if you kill him you lose 1000 Karma.
English

I don't love this video, but at least Devin highlights there is actual player agency and repercussions. I find morality discussions trite because I'm not in high school anymore, but I will always defer to quest design that reinforces roleplaying. Tenpenny Tower is one of the few instances in Fallout 3 where the theme reinforces actual narrative choices. What Devin doesn't necessarily understand is that Tenpenny isn't a very well written or designed character. I think Tenpenny Tower is a great "town" but that's only because it has an interesting dynamic filled with fun NPC's. "Everybody bad'' isn't compelling writing or design, but it's the best the Bethesda Fallout 3 team could do in ~2008.

@ReviewsPossum The problems with public education are almost exclusively related to bad policy decisions which are "end justifies means" oriented. So long as the numbers look good, no one in charge cares how cooked they are.
English

If you're wondering how educational outcomes never improve or even get worse despite public school funding constantly increasing, it's because politicians are laundering your tax dollars to themselves. If you speak out against it, they can just accuse you of being anti-school.

@RazorwireRPG Unironically, ESO is better-written than anything else from Bethesda over the last decade plus (despite its flaws), and it's not produced by anyone at Bethesda.
English

What's happening at both Bethesda and Obsidian is really sad, but are we really surprised? What bangers has either of these companies dropped in the last decade? Grounded 1 and 2? MMO Slop with Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76? No doubt these titles made a bunch of money, but does anyone love Bethesda for it? Starfield maybe made $300 million plus and people are STILL asking for either a proper Fallout or Elder Scrolls game. The cultural impact of Outer Worlds and Avowed is zero. I think it really sucks that people are losing their jobs given how these companies have been managed and the fact they just don't seem to make games for players anymore. Games aimed at Whales and Redditors don't keep studios afloat, it seems.

@Art444Star "It's natural" has never been a real argument for anything - civilization itself is not "natural".
Which also makes it a bad idea to argue that anything which is a "social construct" can be reconstructed at will; there is no guarantee that reconstruction will go as desired.
English

Uuuuuuggggghhhh STOP
STOP THIS
OK so, parking the "Queer" shit (eww) for a sec, the argument goes:
A: "homosexuality is unnatural"
B: "homosexuality appears in x y z species therefore it's not + naturalness is not a valid metric for morality because cannibalism and rape are also natural + loads of good things, e.g. medicine, the printing press for your bibles etc. are way more unnatural than homosexuality"
This is the sequence of discourse
HOWEVER
IF YOU, UNPROMPTED, JUST GO:
B: "Homosexuality is natural because it appears in x y z species"
Everyone will reply with the points they ALWAYS REPLY WITH to these fucking graphics and arguments
"rape, cannibalism etc. appear in x y z species and thus are natural"
An argument that was previously ON YOUR SIDE

@tonyreggaetoni @CorpoScum Double Fine is run by the same people who unpersoned black and female gamers when the guy in charge claimed they were all white neckbeards with sockpuppet accounts saying things he disagreed with.

@CorpoScum Dude, Double Fine isn’t even one of the woke studios lol.

@ChrisAvellone @NamelessFreaky @Zero_Omega_ZX I don't get this weird tendency of people to not even bother checking what they cite before declaring it says nothing like what they're talking about. Matt was a jerk who set himself up for this, Daniel absolutely was not and did not.
English

That was someone else (Matt) who I have never met or worked with. You can check elsewhere on the internet.
Daniel, another art director, that was accidentally named here is almost never on social media beyond LinkedIn that I'm aware of. I don't want Daniel hammered for something he never said or did. Does that make sense?

@michael_inverse @rhapsodyboard1 @Howlingmutant0 Isn't it funny how networks settle with Trump for millions of dollars when one of their reporters falsely claims he's a rapist? -:)

I don't know who wrote this originally:
A future soldier time travels into a gun store:
"I need a rifle to kill aliens that are mostly bullet proof."
Ok, you're probably going to want a larger caliber, probably .308, or for armor the added velocity of 6.5 Creed might...
"No, we only have 5.56."
Ok, no problem. You're going to at least want a longer barrel to keep as much velocity as you can.
"I was thinking like, 7 inches."
Ah, ok. If portability is a big concern you're probably going to want a super compact PDW style stock.
"I need the longest, heaviest stock you can find."
...Ok. Lets talk optics then, a 7" 5.56 is gonna be pretty limited on range so a simple red dot...
"I need magnification."
Oh, are these aliens hard to identify?
"They're gigantic."
Oh.
"I tell you what, go ahead and put a red dot at a 45. They look sick."
Will you ever use it?
"I will not."
....so, aliens huh? That sounds rough.
"They have incredibly heightened senses. They can smell blood from a mile away."
OH. Well, now the shorter barrel makes a little more sense. You're making room for a big suppressor.
"A what?"
A silencer. Especially if you're going to be shooting these in close proximity to other people, the concussive forces will be...
"No thanks. We'll probably shoot a dozen of these full auto in a concrete stairwell."
That's...I think you're making my point.
"We'll also be fighting in dimly lit areas."
You'll want a super bright weapon mounted light.
"No I said they'll be dimly lit. What's your dimmest light?"
How is this war going for you?
"We're losing terribly."

Christopher Hitchens: ”In 1786, when the United States was barely a country, it was having its sailors taken as slaves by the Barbary states, the states of the Ottoman Empire and North Africa. Tripoli, shores of Tripoli. Ships stopped, its crews carried off into slavery. We estimate 1.5 million European and American slaves taken between 1750 and 1815.
Jefferson and Adams went to their ambassador in London and said, why do you do this to us? The United States has never had a quarrel with the Muslim world of any kind. We weren't in the crusades. We weren't at war with Spain. Why do you do this to our people and our ships? Why do you plunder and enslave our people? The ambassador said very plainly, Mr. Abdul Rahman said, because the Quran gives us permission to do so, because you are infidels, and that's our answer. Jefferson said, well, in that case, I will send a navy which will crush your state, which he did.
Islamic fundamentalism is not created by American democracy. It's a lie to say so. It's a masochistic lie, and it excuses those who are the real criminals, and blames us for the attacks made upon us.”
