My friend stopped eating his wife’s food for over a month now. Every single day, he leaves the house to buy food outside. Our estate transformer got bad and we stayed without light for almost two weeks. Each house was asked to contribute ₦15,000. During the meeting, people were complaining seriously. One man said, “Where will I see ₦15k when I haven’t even paid my children’s school fees yet?” The whole thing was almost turning into an argument because he asked for more time to pay, but everybody wanted the light restored immediately. Then one fine boy that moved into one of the end houses a few months ago stood up. He looked uninterested in the discussion. He asked, “How much is remaining?” They told him about ₦210,000 because some people had paid while others couldn’t. The guy just brought out his phone, asked for the account number, sent the money and walked back inside before people could even thank him properly. Since that day, he has become the new big man of the street. The amount of attention that man gets now is too much. I felt if he wanted to help like that, he should have done it anonymously.
