It only took until 4pm for the Govt to say "in time" the mandatory biometric digital ID will be used for renting, benefits, banking, age ID, nurseries, education, even voting.... These uses will not (initially?) be mandatory but likely will be made so after future moral panics

After enormous backlash yesterday, the Government is this morning claiming that the multi-billion £, national mandatory digital ID scheme will *only* be required for existing right to work checks. Either they're stupid or they think the public is. Or both? 🥴

The Digital ID isn’t about proving your identity to a police officer. It is about something called the Digital Wallet which, while couched in language of convenience will allow government and high tech companies to monitor, shape, control and restrict your behaviour.
