@husafell_stone Very interesting to see the characteristic emphasis on extended finger position from the Russian instructors. In the West, I see far more emphasis on techniques in the relaxed "curled" positioning, perhaps striking rather than pushing the keys.

@crescendogames9 @Dungeoneerhere In less than 20 minutes of attentive gameplay last week, I resolved a beholder threatening one of my airships, parsed the results of an important scouting mission in my territory, and my PC survived being surrounded by 20 skeletons in a suicidal barrow mound dungeon delve.

Conventional play: bad novels turned into boring """games""" BrOSR play: exciting campaigns which create demand for fanfiction
Medieval Solutions@Swyrdsman

@RuleOfThule Ahhh, that makes a lot of sense. Can't wait to read some writeups on Shattered Sky! I would say these should be turned into novels, because Drakonheim deserves to be immortalized, but I don't know if books could do it justice.

@Swyrdsman I think the north "depopulated" over time because it was hard to get around and there was no clear resource strategy making the lands worthwhile. These issues have been addressed in Shattered Sky.

@RuleOfThule I can tell it was a gargantuan effort, even just the write up was. What was going on in the north? Any players do a write up?

@Swyrdsman I am so delighted that you enjoyed it. The guys worked very hard to make a cool campaign, and I felt responsible for cataloguing at least a little bit of it.

@RuleOfThule My man, I just read your Drakonheim article from December, I had no idea about the context behind this post and I am indescribably pumped to read a write up on everything here I am SO glad the setting was continued after Desolith reigned victorious, instead of a reset.

@RuleOfThule I was curious about this note, and was wondering if you had anything written on the failings of 5e's encounters, or could offer a quick blurb on your thoughts.

@ashofcreativity This is hilarious because funny knee-jerk non-sequitur line of attack but also 4D chess because they literally told us about it, and looking too deeply into that reflects.. very poorly on those involved.

The contrast between "D&D" twitter and Drakonheim is surreal. In Drakonheim, everyone loves you like a brother. They take joy in the game, fight to the death with a grin, and always strive to play better. BROXT much the same.

@NotJonMollison I just mentioned today that there's a reason so much degeneracy has clung to the hobby throughout the years.. not the least of which is how attracted the morally bankrupt are to the game.

You cannot arrive at a holistic understanding of roleplaying unless you can free yourself from the prison-belief in the linear development of ideas.

Many are willing to sacrifice much in the present & future quality of their games, just for a small chance to "knock the BrOSR down a peg" or whatever. Aberrant priorities.

@WorldofWeirth @td10rpg I did not miss anything. Arneson himself called Blackmoor, a "Medieval Braunstein," in exactly the same way that I am using the term—generalizing the (discovered, not designed) principles of Wesely's game idea.

@RuleOfThule @td10rpg I think you missed the follow-up posts. The 'foundational concepts' were identified & developed in Blackmoor & Brownstone. The Braunstein events were supposed to have a "winner", based on points scored & goals accomplished.

It's been a little while since I've talked about Echo Lake. I haven't given up or forgotten about it. I'm still thinking deeply about it, writing under only auspicious stars, and in doing so, I realized something very important to this game: The X-Files is a Braunstein.

The Echo Lake Iceberg: a shorthand cartography of uncertainty and method for managing the "mysteries" of Echo Lake that may be introduced to PCs through rumors, exploration, and dreams, and any of which may be investigated, revealed, and—insofar as it is possible—comprehended.
