NYC has the POTENTIAL to be the greatest city in the world, and maybe for a handful of years it once was, but it is very much NOT right now. When you have mobs of men in their late teens and early 20s treating people and even NBA players the way that they have over the past week, and when you have people lighting other people on fire in the subways, when you have women and elderly people getting punched in the face just for walking down the street, when you have trash piling up on your streets, when you have a communist mayor and a population so dumb that they elected him, you are very much NOT the greatest city in the world, and you’re not even close.
Have you ever been to Tokyo? Recently? That city is infinitely better than New York City. I love the energy and vibe and diversity that the best people of New York City offers. If that were New York City, then yes, you would be right. But it’s not, it’s just a part of a larger city with people and problems so bad that the suggestion that it is the greatest in the world is preposterous, not just silly. Tokyo is the biggest city in the world, and the safest, and the cleanest. Things are modern, things function, people respect one another, and although it’s not diverse, you don’t have to fear for your life doing anything there, the food is way better than anywhere in the world, the air is cleaner than in New York City, the gardens are better, literally almost everything is better.
It’s great to be proud of where we’re from or where we’ve lived, but it’s not good to keep saying that a city which in many ways has turned to absolute 💩 somehow hasn’t. That’s why it keeps devolving. Too much pride, not enough honest acknowledgement of how bad it is and how never are y it is to fix it, so that it actually CAN be the greatest.
