Forever GM and internet wag. Currently fixated on pirates, and running 2014/5.0 D&D.

I'm back, and I have new account with a shiny blue checkmark. The next few months will be me trying to re-train my feed, and maybe I'll post some long-form stuff later.

@IGADON2 I haven’t played since 4(?) edition, but this is a Rat Marine army. Made with multi-part plastic Skaven and Marine parts, and played with a Salamander list. My full display page is here: noserf.com/?page_id=188

@kyo_nya13 If you're playing with inventive players (who will think of choices beyond the author's), a written scenario will challenge you with its boundaries. It's one of the reasons I don't run them as a GM: as a player, I hated stalling a game because I out-thought the author.

@yashinoki369 @Maguro_Maznaga I wouldn't be surprised. While I'm taller than average, I'm not THAT tall. Depending on the last, I wear anywhere from US size 10 to 11. If the conversion chart I found is correct, that's Japanese 28 to 29.

I think I've mentioned this before, but 5 people is the break point for scheduling, and it's been known since at least WW2. There was a booklet that the OSS produced on how to non-violently screw up the German war effort, and one of the ways was to invite everybody you could to a meeting, and the magic number for screwing that up was 5. So the basic problem with standard D&D is that 4 players + 1 GM blunders into that. It's one of the reasons why Gygax talks about running 1:1 - he knew HE could show up, and he'd run with anybody who was there, which required a certain style of game. (I'm able to get around it in one of my games by having two married couples involved.)

@Maguro_Maznaga yards and pounds is the least of the problem. if you interact with americans more, you'll start hearing measurements like football fields, or fists, or car lengths. Anything can be a unit of measurement.

The new Japanese-American X exchanges have explained to me why I can't recommend it unreservedly to my US friends. The GM section is heavily scenario-driven, while US TTRPGers expect more tools to allow you to build your own adventures. That said, the mechanics are great; they capture the flair of FFXIV, and can be described as, "4e D&D, only good."

90% of RPG products are just not USEFUL to me. I can’t use them. They might read well, but they just have no practical value. This is why I don’t care about the Luke Gygax thing. At all. I have no faith that WotC will produce USEFUL stuff. Ever again. I only care about utility

@ReGO_Kazami It was the best carry gun before the Glock came along. Steel frame, so it was soft-shooting for a subcompact, but it was also HEAVY. It weighed more empty than a P365 fully loaded.

OK, since it appears that today is the day to discuss weird cultural differences between Japan and the USA, may I strongly recommend to all of my military history nerd followers that you watch “Girls und Panzer”? It’s anime from Japan. You can find it on Amazon Prime. Bear with me while I explain the insane premise. It’s about Japanese all-girls schools that engage in the sport of “tankery.” These schoolgirls ride around in historically accurate, WWII-era armored fighting vehicles and engage in active combat that appears to include actual HEAT and sabot rounds, except when there is a hit nobody gets hurt and a little white flag pops out of the dead tank. So there is this big tankery tournament. But here’s where it gets even weirder: each school has the vehicles, resources, tactics and uniforms of a WWII combatant. So the US-style school has wayyyyy more logistics than anybody else, the Soviet school goes roaring across the steppes (see the video one comment post below) and the German school has the best tanks that break down a lot. Also the British school takes war breaks to drink tea. Why would I recommend such a silly concept? Because whoever did it went to a fanatical level of detail on the vehicles themselves and the associated tactics and employment, as well as very accurate propaganda themes from the era. It’s so incongruous—highly accurate military history and Japanese schoolgirl anime. And I love incongruity in entertainment. It’s so silly, but in a weirdly addictive way. And I don't even watch anime.
