@pixhell @hiddenkotoraya @MoxsyOG @Chadly_99 There's several ways to get abyss artifacts. Not just puzzles. You can literally get them just by killing enemies like a traditional xp leveling system. There is a yellow bar next to the health.

because for a lot of people it’s boring homework and unrewarding. beating a boss is exciting, getting more X% health for doing an obnoxious puzzle is boring. they could have awarded trait points for leveling and hidden more interesting content/loot behind the puzzles instead. it is what it is.

During the review process, content creators and journalists used a Discord to share experiences. This boss was probably the most complained about boss in the game. Is it optional? Maybe a post-game boss? No, this giant monkey stomps the shit out of players in Chapter 5 🤣

@whackcar @AI_EmeraldApple This game has definitely shown me how retarded the average gamer is. This is exactly why we have yellow paint on everything and characters that tell us solutions to puzzles within 30 seconds of starting it. It's crazy.

@AI_EmeraldApple So people are hating it because it doesn't hold your hand & tell you how to play it? Modern gamers are cooked if they can't play games without tutorials & guidance. Games didn't use to have any real assistance in the 90s and 20s. You had to figure everything by yourself. UGH!

My first impression so far... Crimson Desert is a VASTLY complex game that is a deep dive... a true single-player sandbox game that most modern players are not used to. So far, the main issue many people have with Crimson Desert is that it doesn't include the typical "hand-holding" common in most Western AAA games. It has barely any tutorials and no spoon-fed mechanics, leading to the overwhelming, confusing, and obtuse complaints coming from many players. For most things, you are left to "figure it out on your own", and for many players like me who love the complexity, that's the beauty of it. For me, I HATE tutorials. I hate game "onboarding". I want to just dive in and explore the world and figure out the mechanics as I go along. The other issue is the story. The story is mid, but for the game, the story is just there as a backdrop, not as the main focus of the game. The real "plot" is whatever adventure you, as a player, go on... not some linear track story common with pretty much every other western AAA game. For me so far... the beauty is in the discovery, the “oh shit, that’s how it works” moments, hours of exploration and experimentation. That is where the friction is so far. Complex controls, complex combos, Inventory where you can't loot everything you want, convoluted crafting system, a quest line that doesn't hand-hold, no theme park, no linear narrative epic, and a world where a rabbit hole deep dive is the point. This isn't a game like Elden Ring where its hard but simple, or other open-world games where mechanics are spelled out for you. It really feels like an old-school sandbox with a 2026 open-world glowup.

@OutSpiralling @MarathonGG_ @RobertTGreat This is exactly why this genre is so niche. Im enjoying the game, but they might lose me as well. I also play single player games and will be spending most of my free time this weekend playing Crimson Desert. There's just not enough time for that kind of nonsense.

Ill be honest: as someone with limited free time who absolutely loves this game so far, this will destroy all my interest in it. I dont have 30 hours a week to grind my factions and upgrades back every 3 months. Hope they reconsider this big time or they are going to lose non-hardcoe audience even more than they already have.

@AshenOne Exactly. It's a game. Gameplay should be the most important aspect. Crimson Desert seems like a fantastic sandbox to put 100s of hours into, and I can't wait.

Hot take: gameplay > story by a mile. A great story can’t save boring gameplay, but great gameplay can carry a weak story any day. That’s why I don’t watch movies at all and just play games… and why I’m still day-one hyped for Crimson Desert even if the story ends up mid.

i get that vault space is supposed to be limited, thats fine still doesnt make sense for a salvage material that you need ~30+ of only for late game upgrades to not stack past 10 either have to lug around 4 stacks of them or delete some and then have to reacquire later

no wonder i have no vault space, just make these stack wtf man

@TNCarly_ It could very well be a good game. I've been wondering what Corey Barlog has been working on for a while now. To find out that it's just a God of War spin-off is just highly disappointing to me.

@Runsfromshadows I think that's a valid and separate point. I still like a lot of Sony's games though, and would want to check this game with Faye out. We know nothing about it yet - it may not have the same narrative strength as 2018 & Ragnarok, but it could also be just as good!

The fact some people are actually mad about Faye possibly being the protagonist in the next God of War project is insane to me - and I feel like it proves what people have been saying for years about misogyny in gaming. Faye isn't just a random side character being forced to the front. She's a giant. She defied Odin, protected her people and set pretty much the entire Norse saga in motion. She chose Kratos and raised Atreus. The last two games happened because of her choices. But to some people, none of that matters. It doesn't matter how justified she is, how central she is to the lore or how much narrative potential she has - she isn't a grizzly man with a beard, so it's "pandering". These are the same people that claim to care about the integrity of a story whilst ignoring the character who is arguably the foundation of it. If the rumours are true, I'm personally excited to see it play out and get deeper context for the decisions she made before everything unfolded.

@Stantonerd The boss fights aren't good at all. I think I only liked one of them.

This entire game is a disappointment. From the unnecessary stuttering of Grace, to the cheap “member berries” used to distract from weak storytelling and forgettable bosses, nothing here feels earned. It all feels so darn empty. Resident Evil Requiem was an disappointing game.

I think you're going to see a fair few people cancel their pre-orders of Marathon after this Server Slam weekend. Its going to lose a lot of people with its weird onboarding, lack of real compelling moments and awful menu. Its a shame because I really wanted this to be great.
