@WmWeedon I wonder, dis he write this after he resigned from presiding over the Ecumenical Council of Constantinople I after becoming fed up with the infighting?

@Phil2icxcnika Volodymyr of Kyiv (958-1015 AD) sent emissaries to Constantinople. That quote was one of the remarks the men made when they returned after having witnessed a Divine Service in the Hagia Sophia.

@brownmp I think we're absolutely on the way to fully automated strike zones. Right now we're in the weird "in-between" stage.
But the robotic strike zone is essentially like putting a metal sheet behind the plate. So long as it "tings" the metal, it's objectively a strike. That's ABS.

I'm sorry, but this can't continue. Either the Umpire is the Umpire and final word. Or the robot is the umpire and just dispense with the human.
This is something completely different than the occasional "did he beat the throw" check. Those are simply questions of fact. Which often can't be answered even by the replay. And they say it. "The call stands." This ball/strike stuff is a conflict of ruling. Whose strike zone rules? And if it is robot, just make it all the robot.

Umpire incompetence or a Rulebook/ABS Mismatch issue? 🤔 This pitch may have been both: -a Strike according the rulebook strike zone (3 dimensional/starting at the front of the plate), and -a Ball, according to ABS (2 dimensional/measured at the middle of the plate).
