@RaafiMania @dokutashibata People use this meme a lot, but THIS is a real gem.

@JamesBowers2693 @BarkKnightGoon @Rinne_yt You got examples of this? Because the only mistranslations I know were from AOT and and CSM, and those mistranslations were just a fault of getting it across in a different way.
English

@RuskiedAlt @BarkKnightGoon @Rinne_yt The criticism is that the official translations don't reflect the original text. Yeah, the official ones are usually easier to read, have fewer grammar errors, etc but that comes at the expense of erasing the author and inserting the translator as a co-author.

The Japanese community is calling out Westerners over piracy, and it sparked a heated discussion.
User (luckynosu) asked:
“Why is it that so many Westerners can't understand the Japanese way of thinking that hates justifying theft?”
But another user (TakumiTakumado) pushed back, pointing out that one of the biggest piracy sites reportedly gets around 45% of its traffic from Japan.
It highlights a clear disconnect: in Japan, piracy is widely viewed as outright theft with little tolerance for excuses, while in Western spaces, it’s often justified due to accessibility, pricing, or availability.
Meanwhile, the scale of the issue is massive, Japan estimates online piracy caused over ¥5.7 trillion (~$30B+) in digital content losses in 2025 alone.

@BarkKnightGoon @Rinne_yt I pirate manga, but I'm not going to lie like this and say its bad translations. The only bad translations I have ever seen were from when I pirated. I don't understand what people say about official translations being bad. Those I find are better. I will still pirate though.
English

@Rinne_yt Blame governments, corporations, and legal and political bullshit.
If you can offer the japanese content as written, or with good translations, people in the west will buy it. If you don't offer it, or have to use bad companies or bad translations, they prefer other means.

@animeupdates Makes sense—her art’s been in Marvel, DC and Star Wars spaces. Witch Hat was always going to read “global.”
English

'WITCH HAT ATELIER' creator Kamome Shirahama believes that while the Manga's global success was unexpected, it's possibly due to drawing with overseas readers in mind
"...since I work on American comics projects, I had overseas readers and manga fans in mind from the very beginning as part of the audience. That may have helped shape the way I thought about the work and its potential reach."

@SpatialPhysics @AaronRegunberg Yes, that's the goal. Then people will actually LIVE in the property
English

@AaronRegunberg Then they'll sell their luxury properties that they don't live in and buy in a better state like FL. They won't pay that tax anyway, property values will plummet in NY as all these units are sold off and there will be less property tax revenue for the city.
English

It's literally -- literally -- a tax on empty luxury properties that nobody lives in. These people already live in Florida, you dumbass.
