Dhaka Tribune just published two election survey stories, both by thinktanks I've never heard of. One says Jamaat is leading BNP (a large but male-biased sample); the other says that BNP is on track to get 4 times the seats of the Jamaat alliance. As I said, we just don't know.

This is a very welcome decision by #Bangladesh's new interim government. It is important to recongise the great work of Bangladesh's organisation of disappeared famillies, Mayer Dak (Mother's Call) - and in particular Sanjida Islam - in ensuing that this issue was at the top of the new government's agenda.

@TheDavidBergman I am curious why journalists are not asking the home affairs or the law advisor to explain their rationale behind these arrests.

The arrest of Dipu Moni, the former social welfare minister, on a case of murder is yet another worrying indication that nothing has changed in how #Bangladesh police are arresting people on deeply political grounds. Until July 2024, it was the Bangladesh Nationalist Party that was subject to the brunt of these false cases. Now it is the Awami League. There is no doubt that the magistrates court will today remand her into either police (or less likely prison) custody, and wont spend a scintilla of time questioning the substantive basis of the arrest. All this shows is how the country's criminal justice system cant be trusted to investigate and prosecute cases relating to the terrible killings by law enforcement authorities since July 16th - or indeed other retributive violence that happened after August 5th. The interim government cannot stand idly by allowing this to happen. It must work out a way to stop these arbitrary arrests and detentions. And do it quickly. thedailystar.net/news/banglades…

I strongly condemn the atrocities committed in the name of revolution. Acts like checking phones and obstructing access to Dhanmondi Road 32 are not revolutionary. Our goal was to change the fascist system, not simply replace the Fascist in power.
