Rwanda Biotech Capacity Building

This week, @RwandaAgriBoard, through its sister project RABP-CMP & in collaboration with @OfabRwanda, conducted a sensory evaluation & “Eating is Believing” session on biotech cassava varieties at The RAB Rubona Station.

Yesterday, RBSN at the University of Rwanda hosted a session with Dr @nduwath, Dr.Dianne, and Dr. Joseph, highlighting how biotechnology can boost crop resilience and productivity. An inspiring discussion empowering students to drive Rwanda’s agricultural transformation.

Yesterday, under sister project RABP-CMP, a Seeing is Believing session was held at RAB Rubona Station, bringing together farmers, researchers & seed multiplies Aimed to showcase ongoing research on enhanced maize varieties resistant to Fall Armyworm and non enhanced varieties.

This assessment covered taste, texture, aroma, cooking quality, and overall acceptability of the different enhanced Cassava varieties.

Day 2 Wrap-up: The @ScienceAlly_Rw Communication Induction Workshop united key Impl partners, including @RMC_Rwanda and @Musekeweya_Rw, to align comm priorities, co-develop Rwanda’s Biotechnology Comm Strategy, and gather insights for stronger outreach and public engagement.

Today, under the BioCap Project, @ScienceAlly_Rw, together with partners @RwandaAgriBoard and @CipotatoRW, convened a Communication Induction Workshop at Hotel des Mille Collines to align the 2026 workplan and strengthen Rwanda’s Biotechnology Communication Strategy.

Today, PIs from @michiganstateu(Dr. Karimu M),@Cipotato(Dr. ERICK) & @RwandaAgriBoard(Dr. Bellancile U.) with @ScienceAlly_Rw(@Pacifiquens), met with Minister @T_Ndabamenye to share progress on researcher capacity building and plans for RAB Center of Excellence in Crop Biotech.

The center, located at Rubona Station in Huye District, is part of the Rwanda BioCap Project, a five-year program launched last year in partnership with the @Cipotato , other international research institutions, and with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

As of Day 15, the biotech maize varieties’ plantlets demonstrate robust establishment. The plants have progressed significantly in leaf emergence, with most entering the early vegetative stage. I @Bayer
