“In Rwanda, our work, our politics, our mindset, is to put things right. We do not deny anyone peace. That is why the history of Muslims and the way they were persecuted in the past has changed, and we will continue changing it by any means. The same applies to all the others who were persecuted, whether based on ethnicity or region. We will not beg anyone for permission to fight that. We must fight it no matter the cost. That is a principle. It is a duty we owe to our country and to our fellow Rwandans.”President Kagame | Rwandan Muslim Community #MeetThePresident

“Muslims have their own particular history, and they also have a history shared with others in this country of ours. But what is most evident is what we all have in common. The persecution of Muslims, and the denial of peace to them, happened in one particular way. But at the same time, many others were persecuted as well, and in ways that we all relate to. That is why the change that took place in our country, change in governance and politics, was something our country should have had, but was denied for many, many years. What we have now is a path of transformation: transforming lives, transforming governance, transforming mindsets, so that Rwanda can move forward, with every Rwandan playing a role, and with no one subjected to persecution.” President Kagame | Rwandan Muslim Community #MeetThePresident

It's not that "Rwanda could withdraw", it's that "Rwanda WILL withdraw" its troops from Mozambique, if sustainable funding is not secured for its counter-terrorism operations in Cabo Delgado. We didn't pay hundreds of millions of dollars and our RDF soldiers didn't pay the ultimate sacrifice to stabilize this region, allow IDPs to return home, children to go back to school, businesses to reopen, and mega investments in LNG to resume, just to see our valiant soldiers being constantly questioned, vilified, criticised, blamed or sanctioned by the very countries that greatly benefit from our intervention in Mozambique. Indeed, we are ready to leave Mozambique, if our work and achievements are not appreciated.

Rwanda has signalled that it could withdraw its troops from Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province, where they are helping to counter deadly insurgent attacks, if the mission was no longer backed by sufficient and predictable external funding. reuters.com/world/africa/r…

“As things stand, Rwanda faces an impossible choice: To either tolerate the continued presence of the FDLR and its growing network of militias and allow them to grow closer to our border. Or to defend ourselves and be condemned for it. The choice is, therefore, very clear. In our position, would any other country make a different choice?” President Kagame | Diplomatic Dinner

“Nowadays, none of us can afford to be indifferent to geopolitical trends. Whether or not you believe that there was a rules-based international order, it is clear that changes are underway, which will affect all of us. One thing that has not changed, however, is that right and duty of every nation, to ensure the safety of its borders and its people. It is that duty that never changes. Rwanda is no exception. And yet, for reasons that continue to elude us, Rwanda is consistently asked to ignore threats to its security and compromise its national defence. The conflict in eastern DRC is neither new, nor is it too difficult to understand. It has been prolonged for decades, due to neglect and complacency, notably by those with the power to make the biggest difference in resolving it. Rwanda’s security concerns stem from the continued presence of the FDLR and its violent extremist ideology, which is the ideology of genocide. Unfortunately, that seems to have some backers in the region and beyond, under all kinds of guises. Rwanda, because of its history and its geography, requires defensive borders. Our defensive measures are aimed at this objective, and nothing else.” President Kagame | Diplomatic Dinner
