It's not that "Rwanda could withdraw", it's that "Rwanda WILL withdraw" its troops from Mozambique, if sustainable funding is not secured for its counter-terrorism operations in Cabo Delgado. We didn't pay hundreds of millions of dollars and our RDF soldiers didn't pay the ultimate sacrifice to stabilize this region, allow IDPs to return home, children to go back to school, businesses to reopen, and mega investments in LNG to resume, just to see our valiant soldiers being constantly questioned, vilified, criticised, blamed or sanctioned by the very countries that greatly benefit from our intervention in Mozambique. Indeed, we are ready to leave Mozambique, if our work and achievements are not appreciated.

Rwanda has signalled that it could withdraw its troops from Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province, where they are helping to counter deadly insurgent attacks, if the mission was no longer backed by sufficient and predictable external funding. reuters.com/world/africa/r…

Happy Women’s Day! “I urge you to carve your character carefully, define your boundaries, advocate for yourselves and other women and girls, and protect your physical and mental health. And please, love yourself with the same gentleness you give others – the same gentleness you wish and deserve to experience from the world.” - First Lady Mrs Jeannette Kagame #IWD2026

“Nowadays, none of us can afford to be indifferent to geopolitical trends. Whether or not you believe that there was a rules-based international order, it is clear that changes are underway, which will affect all of us. One thing that has not changed, however, is that right and duty of every nation, to ensure the safety of its borders and its people. It is that duty that never changes. Rwanda is no exception. And yet, for reasons that continue to elude us, Rwanda is consistently asked to ignore threats to its security and compromise its national defence. The conflict in eastern DRC is neither new, nor is it too difficult to understand. It has been prolonged for decades, due to neglect and complacency, notably by those with the power to make the biggest difference in resolving it. Rwanda’s security concerns stem from the continued presence of the FDLR and its violent extremist ideology, which is the ideology of genocide. Unfortunately, that seems to have some backers in the region and beyond, under all kinds of guises. Rwanda, because of its history and its geography, requires defensive borders. Our defensive measures are aimed at this objective, and nothing else.” President Kagame | Diplomatic Dinner
