Happening now at the Kigali Genocide Memorial: a café littéraire dedicated to the book “Rugeshi Hill Where Humanity Was Buried, A Story of Loss and Resilience” by Apollinaire Munyaneza, a survivor of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The Genocide claimed most of his immediate family on Rugeshi Hill, in the former Nkuli Commune (now Nyabihu District). In this powerful memoir, Munyaneza recounts the horrors he and his loved ones endured, while shedding light on the truth: that the Genocide against the Tutsi was not a spontaneous eruption of violence, but a carefully planned and state-orchestrated atrocity. Yet, beyond the pain, this is also a story of resilience. Apollinaire’s survival is not only a testament to endurance. It is a call to responsibility: to honor those who were lost by living with purpose, dignity, and a commitment to rise beyond the ordinary. #Kwibuka32

Had a good conversation with Rwanda’s FM @onduhungirehe. I expressed solidarity with Rwanda, on behalf of the Government and people of Israel, during the week marking 32 years since the genocide against the Tutsi. We discussed the situation in our region and in theirs. I emphasized that the Iranian terror regime must not obtain nuclear weapons. The removal of enriched material from Iran and the cessation of enrichment there are important goals, and we would welcome if they will be achieved through diplomatic means. I invited my friend to soon visit Israel. We’ll continue strengthening our friendship with Rwanda. 🇮🇱🇷🇼

Today in Washington DC, Rwanda’s Minister of Sports, @nmukazayire was hosted on a round table by the @AtlanticCouncil to discuss Rwanda’s sports strategy and investments. She highlighted how sport is becoming a powerful contributor towards Rwanda’s economic transformation through increased investment opportunities, growth of tourism industry and the broader development of different sporting disciplines across the country.

.@AmbMukantabana chaired this week’s African Diplomatic Corps meeting in Washington, D.C., with discussions on the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage and the Pan American Health Organization, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation with African countries.

CLARIFICATION OF INCIDENT AT WASHINGTON DC HOTEL An unarmed member of the security detail of a Rwandan VIP staying in a Washington DC hotel inadvertently encountered security agents of a DRC delegation in a hotel hallway accessible to all guests. Both delegations were staying at the same hotel. The Rwandan detail member was briefly restrained from accessing the elevator by the DRC security agents, which was inappropriate and wrong behavior in a common area, but the matter was eventually resolved without further escalation. Following this incident, the Rwandan party made a decision to change hotels, but were harassed and filmed by unknown persons as they checked out and departed. Despite this provocation, the Rwandan team was restrained and professional at all times, and carefully avoided any confrontation. There has been gross misrepresentation of what transpired, including blatant dishonesty by the DRC Minister of Information in a press conference last night. These contemptible lies should be disregarded and condemned. END
