Former WTVT meteorologist Andy Johnson passed away yesterday. Johnson was with WTVT for 34 years, retiring in 2013 to pursue forensic meteorology consulting. I grew up watching Andy on FOX13 and had the privilege of meeting him at a recent station reunion. A truly respected individual in his craft. 🔥#Hernando County firefighters responded to a working house fire in #SpringHill overnight. The call came in just after 2:30am in the 9000 block of Northcliffe Blvd. The house is vacant and no injuries were reported. Cause under investigation by the fire marshal.

St. Petersburg Police are investigating an early morning shooting near the Tyrone Square Mall. Just before 7am an adult male was found with a gunshot wound to the arm in the parking lot of the Five Below. No word on a suspect or motive at this time.

HERNANDO COUNTY SWAT UPDATE : HCSO says they were serving a warrant for a sex offense on Park Ridge Dr in Ridge Manor yesterday evening when the suspect barricaded himself. He was later found deceased early this morning with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. @FOX13News

JUST IN : HCSO and FAA confirms a single plane crash last night in #Tampa. At 10:35pm a Cessna 172 with a single pilot aboard lost engine power, collided with trees, a power line, and landed in a field near US 301 and Fowler Ave. No injuries were reported. HCSO photo.

The temporary closure of airspace over El Paso has been lifted. There is no threat to commercial aviation. All flights will resume as normal.

Airline officials tell Reuters that this morning’s airspace closure over El Paso in Texas stemmed from coordination issues between the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Pentagon over the Pentagon’s use of counter-drone technology to address Mexican drug cartels and safety concerns by the FAA.
